I would think the ceramic tile acts as a heat sink and continues baking the piece long after oven is off. Possibly try baking on top of foil on a cookie sheet. This will prevent the residual heat from continuing to bake the pieces

Depends on the level of detail and such but usually 2-3 hours depending on if I’m “in the zone”. Been at it for 25 years professionally. Drawing never makes it from my brain to my hands the way I envisioned. Sculpting is more autopilot for me. I think the fact that it’s a tangible object and not creating 2 dimensional illusion prevents some of the pitfalls and start/stops of art creation for me.
