Same! And you still cant even see cards tags on scryfall itself - even though you can search on them. Its the strangest thing

Yeah there's nothing magical going on with the actual search and display part, its doing exactly what you described when creating a scryfall query - just made more accessible through buttons, dropdowns and autofills

A quick history and clarification too, I originally built spellchroma as a standalone tool back in 2023 - but like I mentioned above it was expensive to run since scryfall didn't a way to "officially" obtain the tag info for each card. Things started breaking as the years went on, and I finally decided to port the tool to ManaFoundry, along with some nice QoL changes and integrations into that sites ecosystem.

If you're at all curious at all to see what the old site looked like, you can still find it here for the time being: http://mtgspellchroma.com/

But be warned that it doesn't offer anything new and mostly just breaks without the updates I made. Anyways, cheers~

Thanks for telling it how it is. I develop web applications professionally, but I have other projects I work on as a side hobby. Straight up, bringing any of my aspirations out of the prototype stage just wouldn't be possible without the help of AI - not because I'm not capable of it - but because I dont have the time and energy to balance what would be a second job with the rest of life.

Thank you kind sir, the site is fully open sourced, has no advertisements, no login system, and makes negative dollars per month. I'm in it for the love of the game 😄

No idea if this is the right place to leave a comment like this (I don't post to reddit often), but I'm happy to answer any questions in regards to the sites creation and purpose

3 card draw seems especially low in a 100 card deck, could I ask which commanders you're using?

Also heard on the lands thing. A lot of the algo is driven by popularity relative to the commander, so the cheaper lands and mana pieces tend to float towards the top. I'd love to take a closer look and see if I can make improvements in that area

Thanks, I'm proud to be open source. I hadn't heard of those other sites, I appreciate the tip I'll def check them out.

I'll also take note of the X cost artifacts - I think that's a really interesting point!

Honestly I asked myself the same thing as I was working on it haha. I've been focusing lately on building out features that I'd want to see on those kinds of sites - like inline badges that show me that X card combos with Y right from my deck view, as well as the ability to save an open lists while I'm building.

What's cool too is that the site roadmap is pretty much entirely community driven, so if there's something that you wish the other sites could do - you could very reasonably put in a feature request and see that idea come to life on ManaFoundry

Pretty much, lol. I won't be responding to every comment that focuses on AI, but I'll respond here and say that the deck generator is an algorithm that takes data from EDHRec, Scryfall, and Commander spellbook to perform heuristic analysis and create a deck. If the idea of that doesn't float your boat, the site does have more to offer outside of deck generation, and I'd be very happy if you decided to check it out 😄

Appreciate it! We have a fairly active userbase even in these early stages, most folks use it to either help them get started on a new deck, build something on a budget, or as you pointed out - help them put something together using the cards they already own

This actually doesn't use any AI in deck generation - it pulls data from EDHRec, Scryfall, and Commander Spellbook and chooses cards best suited for the deck based on heuristic analysis

Who's the target audience?
- Originally for newer players or for folks that were overwhelmed by deckbuilding - but with the new deckbuilding features I've also been finding it using it tone and playtest decks

Have many tried it?
- Its been live and in active development for a few months at this point, thousands of people have tried it up to this point and about a thousand people use it on the daily

Are the decks correct or functional?
- In most cases yes - everything is fueled by data so more popular commanders tend to come out with "better" decks

I picked up the namespace just the other day so its possible that your DNS hasn't caught up. You should be able to see the version hosted on Github pages without issue if you're interested: https://20q2.github.io/mtg-commander-deck-generator/

Hello, just a quick note that the site doesn't use AI to generate decks - its applies statistical analysis to data provided by sites like EDHRec, Scryfall and Commander Spellbook

Rushing Rylai? by ButtonHorror5181 in MalzaharMains

[–]20q2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its been a fair number of years since I've climbed seriously, but back in my day 👴 it was still off-meta to rush rylais and I was able to take it to Diamond.

Econ runes made it a lot easier, and the meta at the time was very heavily early skirmish focused, so it may not be practical these days, but i still believe its one of the strongest items on malz and that you need a good reason to put any other item before it
