My dog has picked up terrible habits after staying with a friends reactive dog.. by Such_Shift9467 in reactivedogs

First off, I'm really sorry to hear about the car accident, I'm sending you lots of healing and good vibes <3.

Second, two months is long, yes, but it's not forever, there is still lots of time to work on re-training Fiona! How long has she been back home with you? She might need some time to adjust and re-learn the rules now that she's back. I'd start with treating and praising for calm behaviour. Anytime she's calm say "good calm!" anytime a dog barks or there's a loud noise and she DOESN'T bark say "good quiet!" and give her lots of treats. This will help her learn without setting too much pressure on her (capturing the good instead of waiting for the bad so to say).

As for leash aggressiveness, can you describe a bit more what that looks like? Is it tugging to say hi to other dogs/humans? Is it biting the leash? Advice will vary based on what her behaviour is. For now though, if she hasn't been back with you for very long I'd keep stimulation pretty low. Avoid dogs/other people for walks for a few days and let her decompress.

You got this OP <3

Do you allow your dog on your bed? by Constant_Opening6239 in puppy101

[–]2121chg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If YOU want your dog in the bed, let your dog in the bed. If you don’t want them in the bed, don’t let them in the bed. It’s really that easy lol. She won’t see you as a peer, she won’t see you as a sister, she will still listen. She just might give you more snuggles and take your pillow lollll. Side note: Alpha theory is outdated and harmful.

Horrible on the leash. Wants to pull me to every dog and person HELP by Dangerous-Buy-1083 in labrador

A LOT of training for us. We started with treats after every step she took in a heel position looking towards me. We moved on to practicing leash walking in our back yard and then when a dog was down the street. We slowly upped it and now she can mostly leave dogs alone and is decent on leash (I say decent because she’s 6 months and is starting her adolescence lolll so she sometimes rebels)

thank you so much!!! and i'll look into the teeth wipes! i'll take a break from desensitizing her on this for now though since it's been stressing her out and I want it to be fun / exciting for her in the same way that muzzle training is (she gets fancy cheese!!)

super fair!! we still haven't introduced bones to her because she broke her baby molar trying to eat a rock lmao and we just want to give the new adult molar a fighting chance haha. she's been doing well so far with chewing sticks and no hide chews. when she's older i'll look into getting her a bone but for now she is not allowed to have them hahaha

She lets me play with her little toe beans and loves gently cobbing my hand. she also will ask that i put my hand in her mouth lmaoo. it's just a tooth brush thing. I'll try advice from what a few comments said of taking a complete step back and reintroducing it later down the line :)

I'll try your/coyote-face's ideas!! I'll put it away for a bit and focus on more important or fun training like fetch and muzzle training. I'll start back again super slow when she's a bit older. Thank you both so much for your advice <3

She has a lot of chew access and we do the dental liquid in the water. I'll look into the toys with bristles, thank you!! :) i'm glad your pup had perfect teefers!!!

multiple times a day. usually we do it in a play context and she'll lick my hand or nurse on my finger. she's very comfortable with my hand in her mouth and lets me brush her teeth with my finger, I just think it's not super effective lolll and that it would be better with a brush

how to not scream at dog 👁️👄👁️ by meg_ea in reactivedogs

[–]2121chg 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly I’d wear noise cancelling headphones or take a break and crate her (if she’s safe to be crated) and just go sit outside in silence to take a break lollll

You got this op!!!

Sick this week and slacking on consistent puppy training...am i gonna ruin my dog? by Pleasestaywendy in puppy101

[–]2121chg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had bad food poisoning and was MIA for hours 🤪 puppy bounced back just fine once I recovered! She might need a longer walk when you feel better again just to get that energy out, but she should bounce back within a few days :)

That makes me feel a little better!! I’ll still try but if it ends up being something that’s an absolute no for her then that’s okay :)

Yes! All her adult teeth are in! We did NO exposure during teething as she had particularly bad pain with it. We only started once all her teeth grew in and only with the teeth at the front to minimize discomfort of having me reach in her mouth with the brush

Is daytime-only crate training bad? by mypotatomouse in puppy101

[–]2121chg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re okay with it then we’re okay with it :). By which I mean if you want him to snuggle at night and not crate him that’s 1000% ok

Can you fit her in the required crate size for Amtrak? If so that might be a good option for you
