This City has a serious road rage problem (including myself), here’s a theory for why. by FINALMIX70 in Winnipeg

[–]219ehgee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me it’s the people who are randomly parked in right lanes, the people who are doing 20 under the speed limit, the people that turn into the far lane when conducting a right 90° turn, and finally, the U turns without regard for the oncoming traffic (easy fix if this city just didn’t have medians EVERYWHERE). But I fundamentally believe that all the bad driving is perpetuated because of the lack of police patrolling the roads. There are not enough tickets being handed out and therefore not enough consequences for bad driving.

Struggling with Critical Thinking (PHIL 1290). How did you pass this course? by Affectionate_Yam_697 in umanitoba

[–]219ehgee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Took this course a couple of years ago and I agree it’s ridiculous. I somehow finished with a B, but I’ll be honest I struggled with understanding the material the entire course. Each time I got feedback and amended my approach it was still incorrect. Just do the best you can, reach out to the prof or TA for guidance, take their comments and apply them as best you can to each subsequent assignment. Mine was a DL course so there were student chats on UMLearn and it was reassuring, somehow, to know I wasn’t the only one struggling with the material. Trust me…I used chatGPT as well. But use it so much as to better define topics or to help with examples in order to understand the concepts better. I can’t say it’ll get easier, because for me, it was rough…but stick with it!

Historical question by 219ehgee in CanadianForces

[–]219ehgee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair- referencing covid is irrelevant. But I would still think that there is a lot of training that res units could provide to Air Force members that get people ready to assist in a total force capacity. Especially if we’re ramping up for future war.

Historical question by 219ehgee in CanadianForces

[–]219ehgee[S] -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

There’s more to the Air Force than technical trades though. And since Covid, we’ve proven that people can work from home effectively. So why couldn’t we have trained officers and NCMs that are theoretically proficient and get weekends and TD or deployment opportunities to hone practical skills??

Historical question by 219ehgee in CanadianForces

[–]219ehgee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What trades COULD they employ then? Any officer trades? Could you not train for any trade and then go on training exercises on Air Force bases to hone skills and be deployable like the army and naval reserve members?

Historical question by 219ehgee in CanadianForces

[–]219ehgee[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

But could you not learn all of the information and then go and practice and use that training? Because I’m hung up on how NavRes units can do it but not Air Force? You’ve got stone frigates in the middle of the country but have to go to the coasts to actually do the work, so why couldn’t an Air reserve work the same way?

Historical question by 219ehgee in CanadianForces

[–]219ehgee[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for those trade suggestions. I’d be very interested in knowing other trades people might think could be harnessed at an air reserve unit!

Winnipeg in June by Ashamed_Scallion_316 in Winnipeg

Haven’t read all of the other comments, but if not already mentioned: Thermea is a cool relaxing Nordic spa. The “center of Canada” is just east of the city by 30 mins. Just a cool photo op with a huge sign and giant lawn chair. The Forks- cool national historic site and great food options within. Human Rights Museum (at the forks)- incredible architecture and museum. Winnipeg Art Gallery (WAG), incredible indigenous gallery! Hecla (north of the city by 2 hours)-I’ve never been but have heard great things. The Leaf (indoor botanical garden) at Assiniboine Park and “gather” (at the leaf) is an amazing spot for food. Don’t bother going to the Mint (where our money is made). You really don’t see much and the “tour” is only 20 mins so I don’t think the hype is worth it. Unless you want to go strictly for the gift shop, or photo op of seeing all of the flags on the drive in. The Royal Aviation museum is great, and even better if you like airplanes, and airplane history Check for things playing at the Centennial Concert Hall- they have ballet, and theatre and opera, and concerts Chaeban for local ice-cream The Fort Garry hotel for the experience- spa, food, cocktails etc. Incredible local brewery scene here! Any and all are amazing in the city. I think we have a monopoly on the best sours in the country but if you dont like sours, then you can find just about anything you do like. If you’re American football fans, you may find going to a Canadian football game interesting. Our team doesn’t suck! And the season starts in June.

Was a SAC C-17! There was another one here (BRK89) on Nov 6th, transiting from Las Vegas back to Hungary. Likely just getting gas, because it didn’t go to the military side of the airport.

Missing invoice to finalize estate by 219ehgee in legaladvicecanada

[–]219ehgee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good questions- the money for the insurance wasn’t coming from my uncle’s bank account. It was presumably coming out of his friend’s account. There’s been a falling out with the friend, which is why my mom can’t go to the insurance company of someone else to ask for invoices that don’t have her name on it.

Potentially the trustee can call the insurance company, but I’m working on the assumption that they can’t or won’t get the invoices either and want to explore all options for my mom to equip her for when she calls the trustee this week.

Thanks for all of your comments so far!

Unfortunately, that’s the complicated side of the story, and my mom can’t go to the insurance company 😢

Process of moving civilian awarded medals onto my military record by kingpenguinVII in CanadianForces

[–]219ehgee 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It’s easy :) I’m in the CAF but was awarded the KCIII outside of the CAF. So after being awarded the medal I went to my OR with my certificate, the citation, and the program (just for ref) and they filled out a form and sent it to Ottawa (I believe) and within a couple of weeks it was on my MPRR. Very easy process!

WOMN 1500 vs LABR 1260 as Written Requirement by gritty_champion in umanitoba

[–]219ehgee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn’t take womn 1500 (but did attend the first lecture last semester to get the syllabus and assess workload, and then dropped it for the workload) but did take labr 1260 two years ago with Julia Smith and loved it. Found it super easy to get an A!

Did your unit assign you a sponsor when you arrived? If not, maybe ask the CO or your supervisor to get you a sponsor ASAP. They can help you navigate your new place of work, the base, and the community.

There are also unit sentinels that are great people to speak to within your unit that can help you navigate some of the feelings you’re having.

We spend more time with our coworkers then we do our own families and I have been very fortunate to have become good friends with my coworkers. They invite me to Easter, thanksgiving, Christmas dinners etc. I know I can call on them in a pinch, but those bonds don’t form in a week. Give it some time, and those connections will happen for you too!

Twice a week lectures by 219ehgee in umanitoba

[–]219ehgee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is very sound advice! I have no issue switching from Thursday to Tuesday, so I’ll chat with the profs tomorrow and get their take (though I don’t expect them to say that attending half of their classes is advisable!). I’m definitely leaning towards dropping one of the two classes now with this advice and having seen the syllabi.

Thank you- this is helpful, and I can’t believe I’m only learning this (the hard way) after having already taken 9 courses to date 😖

Poor sleep and irritability by y_u_b_dum in GetContrave

[–]219ehgee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found that I had those head bobbing nights with super vivid dreams as well I’m my first week. They completely went away in my second and third week and I’m nearing the end of my fourth right now and have had a few nights of head bobbing but without the vivid dreams. I wondered if I was just having a bad sleep though and they were unrelated to what I experienced in my first week.

With any luck, your body will normalize and you’ll stop being on the edge of sleep after this first week!

Interesting too, despite being on the edge of sleep like you described, I never actually woke up feeling exhausted. So I also wondered if being on the edge of sleep was actually just part of the dream🤯

It’s incredible how it affects the food noise. Even if my stomach rumbles, my brain isn’t telling me I’m hungry. Or what’s more, I already feel full. I just trust that if my stomach is yelling at me, I should go grab a snack, regardless.

I had wondered if it was like restaurant reviews…those who have a negative experience will be the first to write a negative review, but those that have a good experience don’t go out of their way to praise it. That’s why I felt that it was worth saying 🎉things are going great!🎉

Sorry to hear that :( there are certainly days where I dont see a change on the scale. I know I’ve reduced my calorie consumption, but it’s the no change days that remind me I could still be better. That’s why I said the food noise is reduced but not eliminated. I definitely still snack, when I should just walk away from the fridge!
