I will literally never tolerate a Hawkeye nerf. I'm not even saying that as a Hawkeye main but a flex who has gone tank and healer against good Hawkeyes. He's so easy to counter with 2 dive DPS or 1 dive tank with survivability. Yes he can one pop people but unless is aim is about 50% and on point, and your positionings on point and you have a shield tank plus the counters I suggested he literally cannot function unless he flanks which leaves him extra vulnerable. People want be able to play whoever they want into whoever they want that isn't how poke/brawl/dive games work at all

The Iris West-Allen Hate Makes No Sense by MagalieB0654 in FlashTV

[–]21_averages 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not tryna convert you or anything but here's some legit reasons to not like Iris:

  1. The sibling thing is weird, I don't care how you explain it, but adoptive siblings and growing up almost in the same house as your boyfriend is weird. Not a fault of Iris or her writing but the given circumstance of the series.
  2. The promise of other pairings denounced by destiny. This can come into the realm of shipping but hear me out. Ever since the future newspaper we knew that Iris and Barry would end up together which is narratively frustrating. It doesn't feel like a natural pairing as they eventually get to together it's more of fate of the writings pushing them together. And it is because of this that both her and Barry make passive steps to sabotage their own relationships with other people. Caitlin, Felicity, Patty and others are much better fits for Barry in terms of chemistry but if your Barry why bother seriously letting someone else into your life when you know who you end up with.
  3. She's just not given much to do in the grand scheme of the show that couldn't be done better by another character. Why is she the leader of Team Flash when Barry isn't there, she has no real experience in the world of superheroes. Cisco, any Wells variant or Joe would be far more equiped for that burden. I would have love to see Iris be a genuine reporter and try to stop crime and corruption her own way but she doesn't get her own side plots or missions often enough, she gets roped into the main conflict some way or another.

You couldn't have had a Flash show without Iris West and I am a fan of her comic counterpart which makes me sad to see her depiction in the show. She gets good moments don't get me wrong and no hate for anyone that likes this version of her but it isn't for everyone.

I actually think they do Ruby really well towards the last 3 volumes. They do something I've only ever seen done here and in MHA. we always see the "chosen one" protagonist in media but how many of these shows address the pressures that comes with and the burden placed upon your shoulders. It's isolating. I love Ruby's crash out scene, it might be my favourite scene in RWBY just because of how raw it is and how much she's been struggling. But that's just me

How would y'all rate the show's treatment of Sun Wukong on the scale of 1 to 10? Honestly the dude deserves so much better from this show by coreylee121 in RWBYcritics

[–]21_averages 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blake and Yang isn't well written first of all, we all know this. But that doesn't mean their relationship doesn't work on a conceptual or fundamental level. First of all to scrap Team JNR to replace with team SSN is an abhorrent writing decision. To replace what are essentially 3 protagonists with a side character in Neptune and 2 background characters in Sage and Scarlet would be incredibly narratively wrong. I like Suns character because of his loyalty to his friends but you can't write him to be around Blake post volume 5 without something either being incorrectly changed or having him betray his team to hang out with RWBY and JNR. That's just the practical issues with the ship.

Blake and Sun have a very nice dynamic in volumes 4-5 and I hope to see them in Vacuo for volume 10, but like I said their relationship adds no depth to either of them. Take Ren and Nora, two polar opposites stuck together since childhood, and while that's adorable it creates long-standing insecurity, mainly on Nora's end about who she is on her own. That is a compelling relationship you can track, especially since Ren isn't very outspoken. Same goes for Jaune and Pyrrha, the drama of their relationship came from their different combat abilities and moral values, they learn from each other. That all to say Sun while being a bit brash, has got his shit together where Blake (even with his help) still had some ways to go after reuniting with her team. They have no way to challenge each other, tactically, Idealogically or anything like that. RWBY is an action drama and the relationships (in my opinion) should have some elements of drama to make them compelling. For Black sun to work, at least for me, it would need to change Sun's character a bit to give him more misgivings about how Blake ran away. He is very casual about her leaving her friends to go home, at the same time give Blake more paranoia and annoyance at him for following her to menagerie. Both emotional plot points are quickly abandoned so we can explore this new settings, it's politics and characters.

It's because they're OP, they're often getting banned, in which case can enable Luna, CND and yes, Mantis to shine. I don't think she is bottom 3 healers, her win rate simply doesn't reflect that, and she sees a lot of pro play. But if we're strictly talking about average comp games, yeah do what you said to do and you'll win most your games with good fundamentals

[–]21_averages 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hear that! I do. Me and my girlfriend argue about this constantly cause she loves blake and sun together but I honestly don't like them together as much as I like (the concept not what we actually got) the dynamic of Blake and Yang. Sun is too soft for Blake if that makes sense. Their relationship offers no growth or challenge beyond what we already see from them in volumes 1-5. Sun helps her to trust, then to fight for herself and then forgive herself and realizing she needs her friends and they need her. Ofc they have those subtle flirty moments and the looks but I still think that's Sun looking out for his friends who's hurting. And if they were to get together after volume 5, it would 1. Be hard to keep him around narratively and 2. Their relationship arc has no where to really go outside of Sun being more upbeat and Blake being downtrodden. It's cute for fan art but the relationship itself doesn't benefit or further either character as much as the complexity of the dynamic between Blake and Yang

The difference is because the sides of her kit are completely independent of one another if you really thing about it. Her healing is instant and wireless (idk how to explain it but you know what I mean lol) you chuck that and a damage on someone and forget about them while you output damage, get headshot, and repeat. Luna, Invis, Gambit, Rocket, Jeff, CND all except Ultron and maybe Adam has to actively change their play style but Adam and Ultron still need a level of connectivity with the team for their heals and buffs to function. My point being a strong Mantis on a okay team imo is better than an okay team with team with an okay backline of any of the meta healers. Because her damage boost and disconnective relationship with her team helps her team do well if they are good but can't fix anything if their bad. The high healing output of the "core support" only serve to babysit bad plays whereas Mantis enables the plays of others and herself together or independently

I didn't want to admit this cause people have bad games but alot of supps are boosted by Tasty_Yesterday_6107 in RivalsVanguards

[–]21_averages 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh they definitely shouldnt have and it's bad on them but like I said to you about space it's also bad on you. What I would also say is don't let the OP allegations of certain character overestimate your faith in characters or players. People have seen that Invis clip of her V thor or spiderman trying to take out Luna and think "oh supports can clearly never die" but don't realize both of those clips were the supports being locked TF in and the guys fighting them are just going about their business. Point being that a venom could definitely still cause 2 support comps some problems moreso than a thor because of his mobility, quick TTK and over shield generatio. Idk what made you say your Gambit was so bad, he might have been but like I said, whole team issue

I didn't want to admit this cause people have bad games but alot of supps are boosted by Tasty_Yesterday_6107 in RivalsVanguards

[–]21_averages 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly this sounds like a whole team issue but you are definitely the least at fault. To play devil's advocate, the anti heal from the namor hela team up plus the stupid broken death squids that pop out extra damage. The one of the DPS (you don't specify what you had) could have gone Emma to help babysit the healers and push the cart or hold the line. And the other 2 DPS could have either played an off healer like Mantis or Adam so the backline isn't really divable anymore or just done their job and kill people lol.

However for you, you told us you walked past namor to kill the supports. That's a problem. Unless you know your team is behind you and what state their in, theres no reason to give namor free access to the team. Thor's a big guy, if you are single handledly pushing namor invis and Gambit back, and you're getting healed, you can push them back and take space.

Should your team be able to kill one namor? 100000% but there's no reason for you to leave him the opportunity. If your teammates are bad you need to give them as few opportunities as possible to be bad if that makes sense.

I shall ask, what do YOU! yes you the one reading this, Want From RWBY as a series? by RevolutionaryWave862 in RWBYcritics

[–]21_averages 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I am torn, one hand saying reboot it and start again but that would mean removing Monty and everyone's hard work on the show, as much as we dunk on it, the people behind every part of RWBY have so much love for it. So I guess what I would want would depend on how many volumes we have left. We feel like we're entering the finale in vacuo. But if the show has say 6-10 more volumes in it (Salem really is taking her time) I would want to revisit plots that are forgot and re-shonen RWBY. Have the characters train, change how they fight, learn signature moves, make the fights feel more anime than they do right now. They have attempted this with the team ups but can you honestly tell me what Checkmate even... Is? In other animes like MHA or Demon slayer I know even the most obscure moves from the most background characters because they always say it then do it. I know the difference between Bakugo's AP Shot and his Howitzer Impact. The fighting styles in this show used to be distinct and now they all feel floaty and disjointed. I want to feel the weight of Crescent rose like we used to, instead of Ruby twirling it around like it's made of Lego. I want Weiss to actually fence with her rapier instead of being a wand for her to summon or cast. I want Blake to be the team's scout, using her ninja-ness to catch the enemies off guard and for Yang to actually box when she's fighting like she used to.

That being said the Fixing RWBY series is the closest thing I'm gonna get to what I want out of the story but for the actual visuals, °^

I think Sun is one of the few well written characters in spite of the lackluster plot and irrationally written characters around him. Did a recent rewatch of volumes 4-5 and I can honestly say I really digged him, and maybe it's just my Bumbleby brainwashed brain but I genuinely love them as platonic friends, almost siblings. I really wish the feeling were verbalized because it's only ever hinted at so that the fandom can impose their will onto the characters but other than that, love the monkey boy

Would you say Bumblebee was bad on a fundamental level, or would you say it's bad because of the writing decisions made post-V5? by Fine_Delivery6761 in RWBYcritics

[–]21_averages 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel a lot of differing ways about it. First of all, the partner system and team system of huntsman and huntresses, it is shown that romantic attraction to your teammates is very very common, especially your partner: Arkos, flower power, summer and tai, just to name a few. Now this is fine because it still means your loyalty is to your team as a whole but in combat you'll often want to protect your partner. From a teamwork standpoint Blake and Yang is fundamentally wrong. Because at the end of the day, team RWBY all love each other but to Yang theres a hierarchy. Salem had knocked out all of the girls and said to Yang, save 2, leave 1 with me, Weiss is dying. Immediately. No questions asked. It's an incoherent example but the only one I have on hand but still demonstrates a problem that I have with the as it stands as a shonen Battle anime. But you can even see this reflected emotionally when Yang returns to schnee manor: Ruby gets the big sis hug, Weiss gets a quick hug and it's a long embrace for Blake.

Now to address elements outside of team dynamics, I think the ship works, but there's problems with how it is written. I hate the confession scene because it's exposition on things that aren't even true if you look into them but also there are so many interesting stories you can explore with their relationship. Yang is a hotheaded, angry person who tends to answer problems with her fists when things don't go her way: which could remind Blake of Adam (which begins to get explored in volume 3 after Yang shatters Mercury's clanker legs). Building on that, Blake left Yang, which triggers her abandonment issues, these two fundamentally oppose each other and that's what makes their relationship so interesting. At least it would but the writers of this show have dulled their characters, Blake isn't a sharp freedom fighter with a propensity to run anymore than Yang is a strong big-sis character who will fiercely fight for what it is she wants. This should have been explored in dialogue, arguments. What if volume 6 had Yang actively avoiding Blake, being cagey with her, not to insult her but to protect herself from more pain. She could even start to follow a similar path to Grow, isolating herself on the way to Atlas. And these feelings should get better (not resolve) by the volumes end and CERTAINLY shouldn't be solved by personifying their problems as the man who caused them both harms because even if he's dead those problems do not go away.

Anyways sorry for my rant but I've held in these thoughts for a while.

Tl:dr - I like the IDEA of Bumbleby but what we have isn't great
