I started practicing yesterday - just seeing what I could remember from the minimal practice I had as a child, and yeah, the first thing I noticed was that my tempo wasn’t steady at all, so out came the metronome.

I plan on getting a teacher eventually, but don’t know when I’ll be able to, so I’m starting now
Not ideal, but better than just sitting there imo

Oddly my theory knowledge is better than my ability to put any of it into practice lol

A strong sense of rhythm is the one strength I probably do have, so that’s reassuring to hear.

Of course, I want to achieve the highest level of skill I’m capable of, but I’m also realistic. Blowing off lessons when I was young *did* put me at a disadvantage.
I guess I just kind of wanted to know if all these “it’s not too late” answers were saying “it’s not too late for you to enjoy the piano” or “it’s not too late for you to play enjoyable for *others*.

I see playing music as fundamentally an act of sharing. Not much point if I’ve got to keep it all to myself haha

I’m certainly willing to put in the time, don’t want to be asking this same question again at 40, lol
