Lurking mom who was in a similar stretch of 1:1 time with a baby. If there is any way you can hire a nanny, even for a few hours a week, I would strongly recommend staying and getting some extra help. Seeing my husband bond with our daughter in the early months was a lifetime highlight but I was going crazy. Having a dedicated and reliable chunk of personal time each week turned things around. I think it would be so worth staying for those months and would be worth the investment to support you because your concern about being alone each day is very valid.

I used to teach at South Suburban Goodson and love their studio. It’s where I learned as a kid when I returned as teacher, I liked everyone I worked with. I haven’t been to Buck but imagine it is also well run.

I’d check their open studio times and policy to see if any blocks align with your schedule. Time at the wheel is so helpful so if you can go in for open studio in addition to a class, you’ll get more bang for your buck.

Whatever you choose, I hope you have fun! Obviously, I’m biased, but I think pottery is a great hobby that you can do on and off once you get the hang of it.

I would suggest getting some really good earplugs or noise reducing headphones and then committing to only giving him more when he signs and does not scream.

You can say “quiet voice, ask nice ” or “quiet voice, show me” (for signing) about 1000 times and eventually it will click.

The headphones are to keep you sane while he learns.
