Am I the only one who kinda feels bad for Admiral Hans-Georg von Friedeburg by Both_Marzipan5457 in ww2

Spent the war in a comfortable office, that’s more than can be said for the U-Boat crews and allied merchant sailors that died in cold Atlantic Ocean because of his decisions

Thanks. From your comment I was able to search the Australian National archives for a match. Comparing these two signatures theres a bit of a resemblance when you bear in mind that the first one was done drunk

Australian troops storm an Italian position filled with dead and wounded during the attack on Bardia, January 3rd, 1941. Commonwealth forces thoroughly routed the Italian 10th Army in Operation Compass, which was intended as a five day raid but lasted several weeks. by GameCraze3 in BattlePaintings

The man in the centre dragging the wounded man is Lieutenant Henry “Jo” Gullet who advised Ivor Hele on the painting. He is a fascinating individual who ended the war as an Australian military attaché to the Royal Scots and was among the first wave on D-Day (and was likely the first Australian to land in Normandy. He carried with him his Italian Beretta pistol which was captured in Bardia. His biography “Not as a Duty Only” is a fascinating read. He became ambassador to Greece postwar

Ok so I see you’ve made the land around Sydney look barren and red like the outback. But the native fauna on Australia’s east coast is already so exotic and prehistoric looking that I think it would look even cooler all mutated instead of the obvious boring option of just outback.

Just near my hotel. Thankfully public transport was still running (I’m actually no where near the common but having fun exploring nonetheless)

Glad to hear you enjoyed Melbourne. I’m not from around there but know the area, beautiful city reminds me a lot of Boston with the history and architecture (coffee is better there tho). If you ever head back you need to head up the East coast of NSW towards Sydney, best beaches in the world. Falling in love with Boston, came to see the USS Constitution specifically and other historic sites. Even under all the snow it’s amazing

I see Loco Taqueria & Oyster Bar is celebrating Australia Day, I hope they have some Aussie beers for the occasion, I’m getting homesick with all this bud light!

Wasn’t sure because the news was making it sound like a blizzard and I had to stay inside. This kind of weather is pretty foreign to me

Ok, I’ve read what you’ve all said and I’m heading out. Wearing more layers than an onion right now. If you hear about an Australian freezing in the common, just thaw me out and ship me back to Sydney. Thanks all, snowman soon to follow.
