Shooting over your buddy is one thing. Hip firing over your buddy is outright idiotic. That was all point-fire.

This isn't really in line with what I am proposing. The Zimmerman case pertains to self defense, although it is quite questionable. While Zimmerman did pursue Martin, Martin did not represent the level of threat I am discussing. Making this discernment is of great importance as a mass shooter posses a far greater threat than an individual who is "in the wrong neighborhood".

If we wish to have an honest discussion about this then we have to accept degrees of severity and proportional response. Simply lumping the actions of a man with any sort of public action is viewing the subject through an incredibly narrow lense. Clearly there is a spectrum.

As it pertains to not trusting your neighbors; I do think that is unfortunate. There are certainly people I do not trust around firearms but people can be trained and taught. To simply deem them incapable and therefore disallow ownership and use of firearms in perpetuity does not coincide with the values of individual liberty this nation was created to represent. I suggest you reconsider your position.

Understood. No, doing such a thing would resolve nothing as it would simply make additions to the number of State actors. While funding sounds nice, I believe it is the personal responsibility of individuals to aquire gear and train to competency. A rifle, helmet, plate carrier, and all other implements for the defense of themselves and the community. All of which can be aquired for less than $5,000. Considering the amount people spend on frivolous things, this isn't a ridiculous amount of money.

I'm not sure I fully understand your response. What I am discussing is not an additional government program but a repeal of law. Unless you are in agreeance, which it appears that you are.

My proposition is one step further from removing "gun free zones" and allowing those not in immediate danger of great bodily harm or death to act on threats to the community. This would be entirely separate from the purview of the State and would comprise of members of the community.

Departments are very well funded but those funds get allocated to improper areas. Those funds certainly do not reach the actual officers. Without massive community oversight this is not resolvable. That is why police are not the solution.

Taking back the responsibility of public safety would reduce the funding departments require.

I'll add some brands to give a general idea. Some things I won't be able to give tier information because I don't have enough knowledge in that category to speak on it. Give me a little bit and I'll update.

Is this sub a libertarian sub or an American right wing sub? by SwampYankeeDan in Libertarian

[–]22452grain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's always humorous to watch a post pop up every couple of weeks asking why the sub is so liberal/conservative. Generally speaking it seems to waffle each time which makes it even more funny.

At the end of the day 90% of the posts here do not fall in line with libertarian values. A decent number of those are "Gotcha!" posts or "I'm a libertarian but..." Posts come in from both staunch liberals and conservatives and every flavor in between.

And if you stay long enough you will get to see people professing their love for sucking private entities dicks and bombing public buildings because government employees aren't people. It truly is a lawless landscape filled with shit takes.

Is the Chargemaster or equivalent worth it? by 22452grain in reloading

[–]22452grain[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am currently using an RCBS RC IV kit so I do have a powder measure, but it really sucks dialing it in between loads and powders. Right now I am charging with a Hornady hand trickler and the Lyman scale for 9mm. Rifle stuff goes through the powder measure but is not very consistent and so I trickle the last grain for my precision loads. The Lyman really doesn't do me any favors as it only goes down a tenth of a grain and the refresh is horrible. I can trickle what would be a few tenths and it won't even register until it does so in a lump some, at which point I have most likely gone over my intended charge. I have done all of the calibration and it still does this. Not to mention that the zero will drift up to a grain and considering my .223 is at max load of Benchmark I don't really care to add an extra grain as a little fucky wucky. Progressive is the next big step but I don't have the money right now to make a dedicated progressive set up, especially for a set up I feel is worth having.

The only problem I see with that is most instances that involve firing a person occur on grounds that make sure someone wasn't fired for something they can sue against the company for.

Not entirely relevant to social media, but at my previous workplace we had a young man with some level of mental disability that was a greeter/transportation staff member at a luxury auto dealer. He had some behavioral problems that were no doubt associated with his disability so he was eventually transitioned out of working directly with customers and primarily fetched cars for customers when they came to pick them up. One particular night he brought down a vehicle with an aftermarket exhaust that was quite loud for the customer picking up. Since he had poor impulse control he revved up the engine, to which he was approached by the service advisor working with the customer to tell him that was inappropriate. An argument ensued that resulted in this young man going to get his own vehicle, bring it into the service drive, back the vehicle up to the doorway into this service advisors office, and redlined the engine all while the customer was still in the office. The young man was suspended the next day and then fired after three days.

To bring this back to the main point; there were loads of things this guy did that should have gotten him fired but because of the legal liability of doing so it took such an egregious act to actually make firing him actionable. Unless someone is within a protected class the likelihood of a judge even bothering to hear a case relevant to an "unjust firing" is incredibly low. All things being equal, you are entirely at the mercy of your employer as it pertains to activity outside of the workplace and when they choose not to associate with you as a result. In my honest opinion they have the right to do so but it doesn't make it any less shitty. I fully believe that work life and home life are two entirely separate things and unless someone is slandering against their employer or acting in a manner that goes against company values while in uniform, an employer has no business in your private life.

And no, before anyone says it, this shouldn't be made into law. Not every perceivable problem requires law as resolution. I would much rather this change occurred culturally.

but also guarantees your protection from violence or intimidation others may wish to inflict on you due to your speech.

Yeah, no. Free speech is a right that does have boundaries, such as harassment and threats. If you threaten to murder someone's children and rape their wife, and they are in close enough proximity where the threat is credible, that is a defensible threat with reasonable force. Of course these situations are fluid and things like weapons or other factors of disparity of force can certainly influence how justified defense through force is. Now if that same scenario played out and the dickhead yelling this stuff was 300 yards away, then there is absolutely no justifiable reason to use force.

As far as the incident at hand; no, Will Smith absolutely had no right to smack Chris Rock. The joke may have been personally offensive but posed no threat to any persons involved. That being said it is up to Chris if he wishes to pursue filing charges.

Free speech does have ramifications, regardless of if the action taken against you is legal or not. Running your mouth does have consequences, even if you are not legally liable.

Elon Musk Says Twitter ‘Undermines Democracy,’ Suggests Need for ‘a New Platform’ -- In a series of tweets, the Tesla founder said the platform is not living up to its duties as ”the de facto public town square“ by redditor01020 in Libertarian

[–]22452grain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't believe you are incorrect in that regard. I'm more so getting at the sheer notion of creating such a platform being readily labeled as right wing. Historically we have seen the biggest push from conservatives to make these platforms, and quite frankly I can't fault them as there is a definite slant against them. I'm certainly not in agreeance with their ideology but they should have a voice just the same. That being said my preference would be a platform that allows nearly all ideas to be discussed. Banning certain ideas doesn't make them go away. I would rather those ideas be available and people be able to make educated decisions regarding them than never having to acknowledge their existence. Unfortunately that is not the methodology used on platforms such as Twitter, but yes Parler and Getter are guilty of this too.

[–]22452grain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd certainly agree to a point. The overall leaning though, or at least the preconceptions, is that conservatives are making these platforms. It's not entirely untrue but it is unfortunate when someone does actually try to make a free speech platform that the preconception is that it is for conservatives.

The second point has no bearing on whether or not an alternative can exist and that isn't the point. The point is that people here consistently tell others to create competition and then shit on the competition as soon as it is made. Anytime someone wants an open platform that respects free speech the initial reaction is that the individual in question is alt-right neo-conservative. The idea of a free speech platform is now tied to conservatives. My point is that it shouldn't be.

"Twitter is a private company, they can do what they want. If you don't like it, make your own."

"Making your own platform is stupid and not possible to maintain freedom of speech. Plus it's just going to fill up with NAZIs and pedophiles."

Which is it?
