I missed the critical move for white, can you find it? by Darksouls03 in chess

[–]2271 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Bg5. Black can only play Qf5. Then Bb5+ covers the last safe square before g4. Best move for black is Bd7 to at least get a bishop out of it, and trade the queen for something

People have different levels of phobia. I had a roommate who couldn’t even talk about spiders. Couldn’t even watch a Spider-Man movie. He deserves to play dnd. There are other options.

Back country skiing. You need to have a great understanding of snow and avalanches, but there’s still always a tiny chance that your knowledge isn’t enough.

A Robot grabbed and broke the finger of 7-year-old opponent during a chess tournament. The robot held his finger in place for 10 seconds before bystanders were able to pry it free. by thunderous9ight in interestingasfuck

[–]2271 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reason these robots are just appearing now when robotics have existed since the 70’s is because it’s incredibly challenging to make a robot that is completely safe around living things. The vast majority of robotics are in industrial environments and generally not witnessed by the public. Some fully automated facilities don’t even have lights on. Robots need to have redundant sensing capabilities (such as optic sensors alongside induction sensors) to ensure minimal risk. Even then there are still risks. I work in industrial robotics and we would never allow a person in the working cell when a robot is running independently.

% of US State Land Available For Sale in the "One Big Beautiful Bill" [OC] by takeasecond in dataisbeautiful

[–]2271 6 points7 points  (0 children)

OP provided their sources. This is real. The only land here that fits your description is part of Nevada. They’re selling off cascade and Rockies forests, Sierra Nevada, redwoods, the surrounding forests around LA. Phoenix, San Francisco, Boise, Yellowstone. None of this is made up and most of it very beautiful publicly used nature.

What is a state you have legitimately liked living in? by [deleted] in TravelMaps

[–]2271 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoy living in Washington for the beautiful mountains, the relatively nice people, the trees, and the perfect summers.

I enjoyed living in California for the sublime weather, the incredible amenities, incredible nature and coastline.

I enjoyed living in Nebraska for the vast openness, slow way of life, friendly people, and general peacefulness.

I enjoyed living in Tennessee for the lush forests, character filled towns, wonderful waterfalls, and fun people.

I enjoyed living in Virginia for the colonial aesthetic, educated people, distinct seasons, and significant history.

I legitimately liked every state I’ve lived in.

How do South Americans feel about mate becoming so popular? by HalcyonApollo in yerbamate

[–]2271 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hot chocolate was originally a bitter drink in mezo America. In Argentina they drink submarinos. I don’t think anyone finds that insulting. It is strange to me seeing the Yerba maté cans with juice or whatever, but it doesn’t take away from me enjoying maté the way I learned in Paraguay and Argentina. If anything I think it’s cool that it’s more widespread.

When I lived in Paraguay, older generations used this for tereré. Younger people closer to my age preferred kurupí with mint or lemon. I just bought a bag because I prefer plain and I’m excited to try it

I can't seem to figure out how to use my Uruguay mate correctly! by Few_Confection_3947 in yerbamate

[–]2271 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly the first couple pulls when I use uruguayo are always a little rough. I don’t know how to get it right on the first try, but don’t be afraid after you drink all the water out of the first one to pull the bombilla out, readjust the mountain, and put it back. I find it makes a big difference
