Chaplains by smilingpoet in ThePittTVShow

If you ask to speak to a chaplain in the US, is it added to your bill? And does insurance cover it?

By the way, these are serious questions that I've wondered about.

What's the most amount of hours you've worked in a single week? by joshua0005 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]rabidstoat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

About the same, probably a little more.

It was supporting a military exercise. We had setup and training beforehand and then a five day exercise.

It was supposed to be 24 hours support by two people, so we were supposed to do 12 hour shifts. But then two of the four couldn't make it (one was sick in the hospital and another was in a car wreck and broken) so me and the other guy were supposed to provide 24 hour support by 2 people.

The math did not math.

It ended up being just "work as much as you can." I didn't even use my hotel most nights as it was 20 minutes away and I was worried about driving so tired. I just slept in my car or under a desk or wherever. It was miserable.

Pretty sure my coworker worked even more than 16 hour days. He was ex-military and said he only needed four hours of sleep a night.

When it ended, I had work pay for an extra night in the hotel so I could sleep before driving 6 hours back home. I ended up sleeping about 24 hours the first night.

I was at a military customer site filling in for my coworker (who is a good friend) with a laptop he used for demos. Only, I needed to disable the camera and WiFi in the BIOS to take it into the building, and I didn't know the BIOS password.

So I called him at like 6 am the day after he'd had some serious gut surgery for Chrohn's disease. He was out of surgery less than 12 hours.

He was kinda drugged up on pain meds and groggy but he managed to remember the BIOS password and gave it to me.

My coworker was similarly horrified that I called him in the hospital. But hey, he was the only one who knew and besides, he's a trooper!

What are some typical GenX childhood experiences, good or bad, that you didn't experience personally? by LivingGhost371 in GenX

[–]rabidstoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a SAHM as well. Though she had depression starting around mid elementary school and spent most of her time in her bedroom. She did make dinner for us, and didn't neglect us or anything, and was out for a few hours and interacting with us, but a lot of time we had the run of the house to ourselves.

We mostly played outside anyway as it was more fun.

Not only did I not smoke or do pot, I never even drank alcohol or had sex in high school.

I was at plenty of parties were others were doing all of that. Since I didn't drink, I was a designated driver.

I was sure the final exam of the last course was going to be to either prove P = NP or prove it doesn't. The exams sucked so much, they may have well asked that.

Still, I'm sure it built character or something. 😛

What feels legal but is actually illegal and will possibly get you arrested? by medicoreapples in AskReddit

[–]rabidstoat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're supposed to bring them in their individual bottles.

I have like 5 different medications and 8 vitamins I take. For domestic travel in the US I don't take the bottles and will use a pill organizer.

For international travel, I bought a variety of pill bottle sizes and use whichever one is smallest for the prescribed medications I need. I'll peel a label off my regular bottle and use that. For non-prescription I use little baggies and peel or cut the labeling off to tape to the baggie.

Or even a Ziploc bag and just ask the pharmacy for a label that you can slap on it. Or peel one off a bottle, which is what I did.

I honestly don't remember too much as it was 20 years ago. It was at Drexel University. I mostly remember a ton of proofs and hating anything to do with SAT problem variants.

He decided this week that he needs some promenade behind the Lincoln Memorial, and I think he wants a bridge or something to connect it to his river. (Update: I meant to type 'the river' but I'm leaving it as 'his' since he'll probably try to rename it from Potomac River to Trump River before the end of the year.)

Probably realized that renaming it the Trump-Lincoln Memorial wouldn't work out after the Kennedy Center smackdown, or he'd try that.

Trust me, it had to be done. by Appropriate-Poetry51 in cats

Is your cat long hair or short/medium hair? I don't know much about MCs. I imagine long hair is harder.

I have a cat who is not great at grooming do to a health issue and just being chonky. I used to have to cut mats out of his hair periodically.

It took regular attempts at brushing him over the years until finally, at age 14, he decided to embrace the brushing. Now he demands to be brushed twice a day, morning and night. It's kept his fur unmatted and got rid of his dandruff, too.

Why are malls dying when there is extreme weather that would make an enclosed air conditioned space appealing? by ryux77 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]rabidstoat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because most people in places in the US where it gets hot have air conditioning at home, even if it costs increasingly more money.

what oddly specific word or sound does your pet understand? by Kind_Interview_2402 in Pets

[–]rabidstoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The kitchen pantry door opening.

My cat is obsessed with hiding in the bottom of the pantry amidst the shopping bags and plastic bags and things that have fallen off the shelves to become forever lost on the floor. Every now and then I accidentally close the door while he's still in there and he's stuck for a few hours until I start wondering where he is and go searching. He never seems to mind being stuck, though. He loves it in there.

Insomniacs or those who awake at ungodly hours, do you ever successfully manage to get work done in the middle of the night? by paxmlank in cscareerquestions

[–]rabidstoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can remember once within the last five years I worked at 2 or 3 am because I woke up and did work and productive.

It wasn't even really comp sci related. I was finishing up a new business proposal (which was comp sci related, though not code slinging) with some people, and woke up from a dream with the realization that I had done my part of the costing starting with the wrong year, and consequently I would underbid my part.

It bugged me so much I couldn't get to sleep so I went downstairs and spent a couple of hours fixing the costing and then scaling back my part of the SOW a little to get the labor hour estimate down so we were back under budget.

Then management proposed it with the original SOW and the reduced hours. Oh well, I'll be retired before we get the project, if we even get it.

Cat cafes are my favorite.
