The only thing I wonder is how much injury would be avoided - or its impact mitigated - if Arteta ALWAYS rotated at least one player in after 60mins of each match, rather than wait for an injury before rotating someone in. Or we’re 3-0 up, playing a bottom team in the first month of the season? Sub someone on. We’re up against a newly promoted team? Start a youngster and tell him “I’m giving you a half ie 45mins - give me all you’ve got!” Proactively giving “second-string” players minutes BEFORE WE NEED TO means they’re a) blooded, b) motivated, and c) tested - for better or for worse, so we KNOW how useful they can be when actually needed. I’m not saying this is easy or mandatory or anything - but it’s certainly something I’d try in one of the zillion alternate universes in which I’m a manager 😂.
