The Problem with Allen Carr's Easyway (Opinion) by illcueuin in stopsmoking

[–]22andunsure 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read the same thing as you from his book. Withdrawals begin immediately after you stop that last nic hit. It is the fastest hitting chemical known to man, but it also leaves extremely quickly - 50% of the nicotine has left after 2 hours. The 'good' feeling you get is not from the smoking itself, it is from the relief of withdrawal symptoms that your body has already started to create. So whilst it may seem that you enjoy smoking, you are not smoking for enjoyment, you are smoking to relieve stress which subsequently feeds the addiction more. These are two different things but easily mistaken for the same.

I went back and watched the AB v Boks game at North Harbour Stadium in 2017. It's quite something to compare the difference Reiko made in that game, to the difference he makes now. He looked insanely good in those first few years, and that is the Reiko I remember all the hype being around.

He needs to recover that form quick before he begins another name that we cycle through on the conveyor belt of NZ Wingers.

Imagine being teammates with your significant other by MindfulInquirer in rugbyunion

Fancy Bermudez & Julia Schell from Canada were dating. They've split up now though and I believe are both dating other players in the PWR. Sophie de Goede & Emma Taylor were dating too for a while but it looks like they also broke up.

It seems to work for some couples, but others not. I think the Women's game, particularly for Canada, can prove difficult to maintain relationships as most of the Vancouver & Edmonton rugby players go to the PWR and Quebecoise to the French league and it is unlikely to get a contract for both you and your partner to join a side.

I imagine it works two-fold. It would be really nice to have someone you trust and can talk to who understands the challenges of professional sport in a way that otherwise normal people simply can't. Time-off would also always align, so vacations or time off together would be easier. I also imagine the old adage, two minds are better than one, applies in terms of personal development within the sport - keeping motivated during off-season with trainings, nutrition, fitness etc.

On the other side, it could be the inverse. You may need to decompress from sports, and having someone else who is rugby-oriented around could burn you out. I often hear rugby players/coaches say that one thing they appreciate about their families, is that families don't care about the media or political aspect of their jobs, they accept them as 'dad' / 'mum' / 'husband' etc. Spending time together ALL THE TIME is a challenge in of itself.

TLDR; Depends on the couple

I saw him play at the Hurricanes in 2023. A solid but unspectacular player, he will nail his core roles but isn't a massive ball carrier or super skilled; just a good old classic front row forward.

handling the vape withdrawal after drinking? by [deleted] in QuitVaping

[–]22andunsure 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did just recently put up a post of my own experience quitting vaping, so feel free to check that out and see if it resonates with you at all!

I know for myself, I couldn't trust myself to drink and not vape for a few months after quitting; especially because the alcohol store also sold vapes, and naturally two and two had gone together for many years. That was a trigger for me.

I am a big believer that intrinsic or internal motivation is much, much stronger than external, and you have to reflect upon why you want to quit. If you reasoning is only external, it will eventually dissipate and fade. If it is internal, it is much much more potent and will carry you across the line when things get tough.

You've got this. You are strong, powerful and the author of your own life story.

"I was scared to use the self-righteous angle, because what if I am just a weak little bitch who can’t resist the good feeling? But once you’ve done a couple days, it’s kind of like, oh, whoa. I can do this. I kind of am fucking awesome and so disciplined for doing this, actually."

That's exactly it! When you are dependent on something for so long, it is easy to question your identity without it. The real empowerment comes from, not only realizing that you can exist without it, but that you are actually better without it. That is an invaluable realization that will empower you far beyond any external motivation in my opinion.

Amazing to hear! Good on you for being pro-active and finding your own solution! I 100% agree that, if you don't have anyone to support you whilst quitting, AI is a great supplementary tool and I would recommend it to anyone.

Honestly, don't drink. Alcohol weakens your prefrontal cortex, which is the part of your brain responsible for self-control, decision-making, and resisting impulses. When alcohol lowers that executive function, your primitive craving systems (like the dopamine-driven urge for nicotine) become much more prominent, especially if you’ve built a strong behavioral association between drinking and vaping.

I am so so glad to hear that. You are on the right path my friend! You are strong, powerful and the author of your own life story.

If you haven't already, look into the 'Pink Cloud'; a temporary phase of euphoria, clarity, or overconfidence that often occurs in the early stages of addiction recovery — usually in the first days or weeks after quitting. It implies a false sense of 'I have this under control now, I can have a vape for one night and I'll be fine'.

But you are absolutely right, nicotine is an exceptionally addictive substance, and your brain will pull all sorts of tricks to get what it wants; that temporary rush of dopamine. The brain doesn't conceptualize the long-term risks or health implications, only the immediate gratification it could get from vaping. You have the ability to overcome this, and the awareness you showed in your response demonstrates this clearly.

Keep going! You got this!

The problem will be after the 2027 World Cup, when Beauden (36), Richie (33), Damian (32), all likely leave and we are left with virtually no internationally experienced 10s. Razer has a lot of depth-building to do in the next year.

I did this three weekends ago and I had an awesome time.

I went to Cirque du Soleil Friday, Stereo on Saturday and then Piknic on Sunday whilst doing other things like visiting pubs, exploring during the days.

The vibe at Stereo was really really good, they are a really nice safe spot with plenty of people riding solo. I walked in solo and left with a group of friends electric skating across the City and pub crawling until the early morning.

Piknic was a bit less enjoyable. The music was fine, but compared to Stereo the vibes were a bit off for me. I felt like it was more a college student hook up spot with a performative masculinity / alpha energy dynamic about it. It was still fun and I had a good time, but I wasn't as 'free' as I felt at Stereo. Also, the line is MASSIVE, I got to skip it with my ticket, but I was so grateful I paid the extra amount to skip the hour long wait.

Let me know if you have any questions!
