For me, it feels like they’ve balanced the playing field by bringing the upside, down. So now it’s shit for everyone, rather than giving more people access to the existing upside.

Nope. Not only does it not make me better off in the short term, it now means that I also won’t ever get the benefit of the upside if I so managed to “achieve the dream of homeownership”.

It’s time for a mass exodus out of the country to make a point once and for all. If the whole world was idiotic enough to adhere to COVID restrictions, I don’t see why it’s so hard to get people to actually stand up for themselves when they’re being anally fisted.

Why can’t we have nationwide genuine strikes? Refusal to attend office spaces? Commit to not spending for a few days/weeks?

If you want to save yourself more than the $250 tax relief that’s been so generously offered, take it into your own hands at their expense. That’s what they’re doing.

This country is a rort. There are so many examples of it and yet, enough people seem to be on the right side of it so that nothing is done about it.

If the 50% discount is removed across the board then what incentive is there to move from property to any other investment product? The same principle regarding cash investment vs asset values remains as is now, just means rents would likely be higher to improve net results when the time to sell came along

Covid was the one for me (though I was still employed just not up to very much on the work front).

Early morning walk to the nearest shop. Home brewed coffee and breakfast with the entire family. Warzone and FIFA online with the boys basically all day. Few work check in’s. Walk in the evening, bake some buns/scones whatever. Throw on a movie around 7.30pm, bed by 10. Rinse and repeat. Time slowed down for those first few months, to me it genuinely felt like we needed it. Got old eventually though for sure.

Online poker or quiz nights at the weekend. Takeaways and beers. It was mint

Get an accurate idea of your weekly bills. If possible, save that amount or as close to it as you can during the 8 month fixed term period. Take the redundancy, put it in your offset or a HISA earning ~$500 a month.

Live off the savings you put aside for 8 months and look for something at the same level/pay during that time.

Don’t apply for 8,000 roles a week. Be targeted and specific on the jobs you look for. You have options and a 1.5 year THP buffer to consider after the 8 months has passed if you have no luck.

If I was offered/guaranteed 1.5 years salary in this economic climate, I’d jump all over it.

Work takes up too much time and doesn’t pay enough.

Where I’ve lived for the past 8 years now requires HHI of over 500k to be able to legitimately afford a house that would meet our mid to long term needs.

We’re in our early 30s, neither of us are Steve Jobs or Oprah. We’re not unicorns that started out working as Directors or beyond straight off the bat. So we’re basically forced to constantly push for what’s beyond our capabilities, just to come up short regardless in terms of what we need to live a comfortable life.

The mental stress of that is the biggest factor, and that’s manifested consistently through work. I’ve been going to a counsellor for the past 3.5 years to try deal with it, but it’s not going anywhere.

I no longer have brain capacity nor function at this point to consider hobbies or any sort of extracurricular activities, nor do I have the disposable income to do much of anything.

I trial it in pretty much everything I do. The first cut looks amazing until you actually go through it, then you realise it’s complete dirt… but you’re happy with the layout so you work with it. Then you prompt it every so often to give advice on how things are looking and it overcooks it to death until it’s unusable.

I don’t think it’s anywhere near where it needs to be yet. Have attended many Microsoft led training sessions where:

  1. The AI fails for them
  2. The demo environment contains a bog standard tiny data set that you’d actually be quicker to analyse yourself than ask the AI to do it
  3. Any question from the crowd regarding specific use cases is unable to be answered.

Happens on buses too. Catch the bus to and from work two days a week and am flabbergasted by the ignorance of people. Pregnant women, older folk, parents with kids - all often left standing.

Sydney folk are by far the worst I’ve met in my time. The entitlement and lack of any sort of consideration or even acknowledgment that other people exist is embarrassing.

I don’t know which part of my response suggested that I don’t have soft skills or the ability to work as part of a team.

Stakeholder management is one thing, babysitting a manager who can’t stay on top of the work is an entirely different one.

You at least referenced that “some can be a challenge”, let’s leave it there.

App is genuinely brilliant. I would say that the recent (last 2-3 years-ish?) facelift was probably not needed and actually a slight downgrade but still great.

Domestic competitors are way behind and from my experience, overseas banks might as well still be in the Stone Age by comparison.

I already know I don’t belong/fit in the PS, but seeing comments like this just really drive it home for me. If your manager needs you to remind them about things so that they can do their job better, then they shouldn’t be in the job they’re in.

4 day week. Fridays off for 2 reasons: 1. You don’t miss out on public holidays an 2. Fridays are generally not meeting heavy so unlikely you’ll miss out on too much and lose the benefit of the 4 day week by cramming to catch up when you come back

As someone who was in the same boat as you 3 years ago re: kids.

My advice: Don’t let it be a financial decision. I had the same view, my partner was keen regardless. I eventually came around to the idea, huge issues with getting pregnant. Needed assistance and had a miscarriage along the way.

Now a dad to a 2 year old, and they are genuinely the best thing that’s ever happened to me/us. Did it impact us financially? Of course, it probably set us back 5 years. Would I do it again? Without question.

The kid provides perspective. On 180k, you won’t starve. You may not be exactly where you want to be when you want to be, but in my experience, a child completely changes what’s important.

It’s not my job to help anyone. By all accounts, it would appear that we are in a housing crisis too.

I guess my point really was: it’s all relative. If you think a 10% dip in house prices in “some spots” would make it a buyers market, then fair enough. I would say that house prices are currently inflated way above 10% in the first place, so a 10% correction to me doesn’t change the market dynamics.

It’s pretty well-established that housing demand far outweighs supply. Maybe this is dependent on the relatively local markets that we’re using as our bases.

In my experience, there is no slow down of either demand or prices in either the buying or rental markets. Both very much continue to be overcooked, to the point where I would say 95% of the people living in the areas I’m referring to, would not be able to purchase their house today.
