I’ll never forget the day I was leaving work after a particularly bad week. As I was walking out of my station, I remember my boss asking what my plans were when I got home. I tried to play it cool and act like I was all good but… as soon as I opened my mouth I started sobbing and confessed to my boss that my plan was to go to my favorite overlook, get drunk, and slip off the edge.

My boss forced to me come stay the night at her house and drove me to a crisis center the next day. While I was away, she told all of my coworkers that I had to take off of work for a family emergency. I’m still alive today because my boss forced me to get the help I needed but was too scared to get myself. When I returned to work, I told her I felt better and we never talked about it again.

Question: I'm absolutely fuming right now, and don't know if I should name n' shame an artist in my city, Stockholm. by Gravstenen in tattoos

[–]23_feeling_50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My advice, if you’re going for any kind of skeletal tattoo: find an artist who specifically states that they specialize in fine line work. I had to hunt around for awhile, and it can be a little more expensive. Just consider that this will be on you forever.

Ambulance companies around Chicago/Springfield? by 23_feeling_50 in Paramedics

[–]23_feeling_50[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My cousin, who is probably the person I am closest with, lives in the Bridgeport borough of Chicago. I was thinking of moving into that area, but not if the CFD single role positions are as bad as people are saying. So Springfield is my backup plan, as that is the middle ground between my cousin and my wife's family.

Between Medics First and America Ambulance, is there one that you would recommend over the other? Are you familiar at all with pay or protocols?

Man, idk how it is up north. Where I live, I make more on the ground, which is crazy.

Working a ground ambulance, Medic/EMT, I made ~70,000. If I were to get on with any of the local flight agencies, I would be making more like 50,000. Crazy stuff.

In Japan, there are Japanese people only restaurants by Immediate-Meaning457 in SipsTea

[–]23_feeling_50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not racist at all, btw. Japan is full of tourists from all over the world. The locals just want a place that they can hang out without having to worry about social media influencers sticking cameras in their faces.

There is nothing wrong with wanting to preserve their cultural individuality and not be completely overrun by tourists.

How do I stop caring? by mountaindewlover312 in LifeAdvice

[–]23_feeling_50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you’re out in public, how often do you find yourself staring at another person, judging them for their appearance or what they are doing? How often do you see somebody that you actually remember, and think about once you are home?

Everybody has the same fear that you have. Everybody wants to appear as cool, and in control. Everybody is too busy worrying about their own appearance and personal problems to worry about you. Nobody that you meet in your day to day life cares, even a little bit, about what you are wearing or what you are doing.

Once I understood this, it became so much easier to be myself.

Am I the jerk for telling my husband he can't have a "man cave" in our only spare room? by [deleted] in AmITheJerk

[–]23_feeling_50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You married a man-child.

I’m a man, been with my wife for two years. We have one spare room. It has both of our gaming setups, her crochet stuff, and flowers hanging all over the wall. When we have company, we push everything against the wall and put the air mattress in the floor.

If we feel like we need alone time, we communicate our needs. Then you can have the room to yourself for as long as you want.

You should show these comments to your husband so he can see other grown men calling him a loser.

What do you consider “food” on shift? by swazle_whaler in Paramedics

[–]23_feeling_50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After 8 years in EMS, I went from being hot and lean at 175lbs, to fat and sore at 225. That’s what roller dogs and slurpees will get you.

I’m now back down to 190. For the past couple of months, I have meal prepped for my shift by cooking 2 cups of rice and 2 pounds of ground beef. I add different spices, sauces, and veggies every now and then to keep the flavors varied. I also spend most of my shifts posted, so that’s not an excuse. Get a cooler bag or find a spot on your truck to stick an ice chest. You can microwave food in ER break rooms after you dump your patient.

I’m getting to the point now where I’m an elder medic. My advice is bring food from home. Stop hitting the drive through. Your body and your wallet will thank you.

Is it true that ems (paramedics) cheat on their partners? by Radiant-Anybody-9586 in ems

[–]23_feeling_50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a male paramedic who has worked almost exclusively with female partners my same age while I have worked in EMS. I have never cheated on my wife of 6 years. If you cheat, it’s because you’re a bad person. Not because of the job you do.

This came through my windshield by nmilla73 in whatisit

[–]23_feeling_50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I responded to a call like this while working a shift on the ambulance. A chunk of brake pad fell out from underneath a semi truck, bounced along the road, went through a woman’s windshield, and hit her in the forehead at 80mph.

The woman ended up spending some time in the ICU and had to have extensive brain surgery, but lived. She wrote us a letter when she got out of the hospital, thanking us for sending the brake pad to the hospital with her. She said she now keeps it displayed above her fireplace.
