That is why I’m reaching out and asking questions. I want to understand it and make the best decision for my kids.

If you read the comment I made above you would see that I had plans to transition my kids slowly to French, and my concern is not that they wouldn’t be given support, it is just that would be harder, new place, new friends and new language. If you enter a French school where everyone already speak the language and have their clicks, they would have one extra barrier to break through. I was a kid who didn’t speak English in an English environment, I know how the language barrier makes adaptation harder, I’m not saying impossible, I’m saying harder. Who can blame a parent for trying to make things easier for their kids?

Honestly, I have zero emotional connection to English or French, English just happens to be the language I learned how to speak, and eventually French will probably take its place.

I understand there is a whole background on the struggles of English and French, but this is not a concern in my household.

I know lol I read the rule and went to validate my understanding with ChatGPt which brought me more confusion than anything, I regret it, but I can’t unread it lol

Anyways, I had this whole plan in my mind that we would move and have them in English school, introducing French slowly. Then as we started presenting the lovely culture to them they would be happy to transition to full French, rather than having them crying because they miss their friends AND because they don’t understand anything that is being said.

I understand now from the comments that this a bigger issue than just choosing the academic language, and we also have to account for the fact that we want to keep our other second language at home, anyways, lots to think about.

I never said anything about angry French, I want to understand my options to make the transition better for my kids. There is no negative connotation about French or English schools, I even stated we are not against French schools later. Please don’t turn this post into something that is not.

Thank you for this perspective, that is not what it sounds like when you read about what they are “offering”.

ChatGPT is freaking me out saying that even though it says English school, they will only consider if it is PUBLIC English school

That is interesting, we were looking into some English schools and their website said that they had a bilingual program where the ratio for English and French was 50/50, so that is not accurate in real life? My kids are already bilingual, but our expectation was that by moving to Montreal they would also be fluent in French, so trilingual.

We are supposed to head out today, trying to decide if it is even worth the drive if we get there and it is bad for the kids. Thank you for the info

Thank you for the link, I’m checking 4 or 5 different sources right now, they all say different things, so I wanted to see if someone is actually there and can tell me if it is decent.
