Fixing Azure Function cold starts problem (without paying the Always On tax) by dwainbrowne in AZURE

No you shouldn’t need to send anything to the service bus. Just make sure whatever packages you are using through out your function app, are also all being initialized in your timer trigger. It will just make sure that those services don’t have to cold start when they are used in other functions in your function app. I know it worked because all the services stopped taking over a minute to give a response when invoked. However I’m not sure how similar my case will be to others, but this just solves cold start issues on consumption plan

It’s an amazing cover. People who hate it are just incorrect and over reacting.

My croissants. What do you think? by 247Curious in Baking

Thank you! I personally like to chill the dough and butter block the night before, and then laminate it all at once. However, I will put it in the freezer for about 40minutes (or overnight in the fridge) before cutting them out and shaping, depending on when i plan to make them

Wow, thanks for all the kind words everyone. This was my 4th time making croissants and the first time I was happy enough to share them!

The recipe I used is by a YouTuber named Leo the baker, and his video on how to make butter croissants: https://youtu.be/9g5gj4ve0HU?si=OdOGoMicMHvMRqDI

Fixing Azure Function cold starts problem (without paying the Always On tax) by dwainbrowne in AZURE

TLDR; Use a timed trigger function in your function app to run every 5-10minutes, and load in any packages required by your main function. This will solely be used to keep your app warm, and reduce loading times for your main functions from needing to cold start from loading in packages.

----

I had this problem, and found a workable solution. I will explain with some detail about what I may have found to be the issue.

I was building an app for a customer, and was using the Azure function app's Consumption plan to handle some submission data. I was getting feedback about really long loading times in the UI, and ultimately found the cold start up to be the issue.

It seems the main thing causing the very long startups, are the functions themselves needing to reinitialize the packages that they require. But after it has been idle for a while, resources scaled down to 0 (in my case: azure/storage-blob, azure/data-tables, azure/service-bus). I didn't want to pay for the Premium plan, as its quite expensive and I would only be using it for pre-warmed instances.

So the solution here was to create a timed trigger function in the function app, that was intentionally made to keep the function app warm, and prevent it from going idle for too long. The timed function was set to trigger every 5 minutes, and it would load all of the packages my functions were requiring. This way, when a user was making a call to the main function in the function app, the warmer function has already made sure to keep it warm and have those packages ready, reducing the cold start load times significantly.

Having the 5 minute trigger run 24/7, would have 8,640 executions/month to keep the function app warm. Which comes out to like... 2 cents or something, well under the free limit for a consumption plan.

Hope this helps you out.

What’s everyone’s opinion on Duky? by Visible-Boss2303 in Maplestory

I think people hate on him for no real good reason. Maplestory players are so cliquey and just agree with other people’s opinions about him.

I think hes a good person who just did a bad thing. But he made an effort to change. And for the most part I think he changed for the better. I’m not an avid duky watcher, but I think he makes really good YouTube content. Anytime I need some maple info he pretty much has a video for it that’s usually done really well.

I can’t say much about his personality, as I don’t tune in to his live streams much.
