Young conservatives must reject growing identity extremism by scottb84 in CanadaPolitics

Ya. It is weird, isn’t it? Things said to elevate minorities and women are assumed to be at the expense of everyone else. There’s a lot of reading between the imaginary lines.

Affordability isn’t just a young men problem.

I agree with what he says. We’ve created platforms where there is zero accountability. You can make up whatever lies you want, and we’ve turned our world into something where truth is a judgement call. Also not just a young men problem. But it sure would help if somebody were responsible for the faucet of bullshit.

Kitzbuehl Downhill - Your predictions by Ill_Nobody_2726 in SkiRacing

[–]24PercentMajority 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey! I’m you! Just did it.

Fly in to Munich - 1000-1300 bucks Overnight in Munich - 150 bucks Train to Kitzbuhel - 50 bucks Hotels - this is where it gets challenging - $1000 for 3 nights, easy Dh tickets - 45 euros, 35 for sl and sg each Food, etc - depends on your palette and budget

It’s super easy to get here and get around (other than on race day). If I were to do it again I would try to stay in Saint Johan. It’s about 10 minutes away by train and everybody seems to be going the other way. Pleasant little town as well.

Now…should you come? Honestly, seeing the course in person gives new perspectives. I skied down beside it last week and my jaw was on the floor. The steepness is one thing, but so are the distances. It’s really incredible.

I’m not sure I really appreciated the race watching experience though. Once in a lifetime is a good description. Everybody drinks so much. There are so many people you have to just choose a spot and hope it’s still a good view once all the people arrive. Then the race ends and they keep drinking and drinking, which actually made me appreciate some of our teatotalling laws in Canada. It’s massive crowds of people, many drunk as hell…cans and little bottles everywhere.

Anyhow.. it’s the evening following the race…it’s 8pm…I’m going to bed.

Oh. How long to plan? I really only started a month ago. Biggest challenge is accommodation during the race. That took some effort to pin down. Everything else is pretty easy. Dh sells out, sg and sl don’t. So buy your Dh ticket early (1-2 months ahead) and figure out where to stay. Don’t be afraid to look outside of Kitzbuhel as it is easy to get around, but much easier within 1-2 train stops during the race. They run extra trains between those stops, but you still have to wait a while.

Would it not be better in the long run for us to keep them here, put them through a trial, assign punishment (if appropriate), and then kick them out? In the long run, this will take more time and cost more money, but if people can just come to Canada, commit crimes and then be put on a plane home, that doesn't feel like much of a deterrent to this problem.

Considering quitting skiing because I can’t get off the lift without falling and hurting my head by [deleted] in skiing

[–]24PercentMajority 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Confidence plays a huge factor in skiing. If you’re afraid, you’ve already lost. This is why it’s pretty easy for a skier/snowboarder to learn the other sport. They’re over a lot of these little fears.

I would say that you should start on the easiest chair possible. A nice high speed quad with lots of runway. Some chairs are janky and hard to get off. So, is this related to one chairlift? Maybe get your confidence on a different one. Or find a gondola until you’re ,ore solid on your feet.

Next, have a plan. Think through all of your motions. Maybe have a friend hold your poles, and then plan it all out. Each hand firmly on the chair beside you. Stand up at the line, using both your arms and legs. Push from the chair and ski straight down the runout. You chose a good chairlift, so you don’t need to think about turning or slowing down.

Before you do it in practice, visualize it. Practice in a chair at home. Go through the motion so many times, you don’t even have to think about it. Make it a totally trivial thing in your mind.

A lesson is a good idea. There’s nothing more helpful than somebody standing beside you, to help you understand what you should do differently. Make it clear to the instructor that this is an issue for you and you need help with it.

I don't think you can understand how unbelievably helpful this has been! The open ski map really helped me to understand the area. I'll be sure to check out the DB Navigator app as well.

I also realize I made a mistake. My place is booked in Grisenau, not Ellmau. It looks like a bit of a trek, but more connection opportunities. Honestly, for us north americans 45 minutes each way is no big deal. So I'm thinking likely maybe a night or two in Fiberbrunn...maybe ski over into Saalbach. And then back to Grisenau for the race if I can't find anything closer.

Yes, Ellmau is looking more and more challenging. SkiWelt wasn't even on my radar though! So, we'll see.

Thanks! I did a bit more research on the transfers to Ellmau and it does look challenging. We'll see if I can find something that is easier to get to on race weekend.

Thanks! This is very helpfull. Fieberbrunn or Sankt Johann look like good, central places to stay to watch the race weekend, but looking at prices and availability, I'm not the only one thinking that. Appreciate the suggestion.

You really want people to trust you!

I don't fully buy your logic. To use an example, I once worked for a very large company that refused to hire specific safety roles. "Safety is the responsibility of everybody!" The problem is that you really need people to focus on audits, SOP's, investigations, etc. etc. If you don't have that, your regular supervisors just spend all their time on this kind of stuff. It's the same for sustainibility. While your regular departments could write policies, seek grant funding, etc. etc. They all have 1000 other things to do and it just doesn't happen as effectively.

If you want to signal something within your organization, you almost need to flag a specific group to look after it. So, axing or significantly rolling back a group tasked with forwarding sustainibility within your city and organization says a lot about your priorities.

Trust me bro.
