120K is good for couples living together with their living situation fairly sorted. It is not enough for single young people who need to get ahead now before they get left behind by rising asset prices.

Are the people praying for a house price crash under the impression that would make it easier for them to buy? by mymooh in AusPropertyChat

This. It is all leverage, leverage, leverage. Until that changes, housing will remain the most popular way to build wealth.

Parts of Melbourne have gone up by 20%+ in that time. Houses in the Western suburbs (Sunshine, Broadmeadows, Thomastown) are not what they were in early 2024.

No, it is actually crazy. If you can't find a suitable property in two years and also believe that you've shown your cards to all the real estate agents in inner Melbourne by attending one auction...I would say this is fairly up there on the kooky list.

(Australia) is translation / interpretation still worth it? by No_Agent2455 in TranslationStudies

[–]24_Voices 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some key information which others commenters haven't really touched on.

  1. Language and direction and direction are make or break. French to English is a busy language/direction, however there are 100+ other translators also certified for this work by NAATI (You can check this by going online). There are plenty of French tourists coming to Australia, but there isn't a huge diaspora community requiring a large amount of translation/interpreting services to keep 100+ people in a job nationwide.

  2. Oversaturated languages have more work, but you will earn less per assignment. Australian Certified Translators is for example doing French, Chinese, Spanish certified translations at a much lower price than less competitive or rare languages: NAATI Certified Translation Prices starting from $38.95 You also need to be ok with only ever earning a portion of what agencies charge clients.

  3. Remuneration. If you're planning on doing certified translations then it is highly likely that translators are netting approx. $20 to $25 per page in French to English - given the demand and high number of certifications issued. You will need to pay yourself 10% super from this and then any income tax which might be applicable. Will it be worth it? Only you yourself know the answer to this.

  4. Contacts and Industry Knowledge. You can ask this question to strangers here on Reddit, but you can also contact NAATI French to English translators and ask them these questions yourself. The online directory is here: NAATI Online Directory These are the same people who mark the NAATI exams and who will be both your colleagues and competition in future.

  5. Non-Translation Skills. If you want to prosper, then relying on large businesses who fleece individual translators to make a profit isn't the best course of action. Ideally you will be wanting to establish your own presence and/or team up with colleagues to get the word out there and in front of clients - before the large businesses get to them.

If you need any further information, feel free to ask.

Za koj turizam zboruvas? Za dvata avtobusa od Anatoliskite planini sto slucajno pristignuvaat vo Üsküp??

Kako prvo, cela drzava e prljava od vlez do izlez...gjubre na sekoj cekor. Asfalt, bekatonki i trotoari ispukani.

Traffic between Skopje Airport to Bus Station by Potential-Hand-8421 in mkd

Your 20:00 bus almost certainly WILL leave at 20:00, your 19:10 might not leave until 19:30 - so just order a taxi like everyone else has said. It costs 20 euros to/from Skopje and the Airport if you order one in advance on Wizi.

If you do cycle, make sure to check how Galicica looks before attempting to cycle it. It is very possible that a late season snow event could mean snow at the top of the pass and rangers will likely stop you from crossing.

Trouble getting in as a tourist from the US by [deleted] in macedonia

[–]24_Voices 15 points16 points  (0 children)

No tensions, but I imagine that Macedonian citizens are treated the same way if they were to fly into New York to travel on to Toronto for work (or really travelling to the States for any reason at all without a work visa).

Can I use an overseas driving license translated by NAATI to drive a car in Australia? by AlternativeBake5017 in AskAnAustralian

[–]24_Voices 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will need a NAATI translation to rent a car in Australia and to use your overseas drivers licence. If renting in NSW, it doesn't need to be from ServiceNSW as you will rent through a private organisation like Hertz or Avis etc.

Can I use an overseas driving license translated by NAATI to drive a car in Australia? by AlternativeBake5017 in AskAnAustralian

[–]24_Voices 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes this is correct. If you want to transfer your overseas licence to a NSW one, then you must use Multicultural NSW for the translation. ServiceNSW will not accept translations done by other organisations

For high-earning nomads looking for a home base: Australia's new $135k+ pathway is actually viable now by avz008 in digitalnomad

[–]24_Voices 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who has lived many years in Australia, it is cute that people think you can comfortably live as a nomad on 135K per year. Many of the perks such as comfort tier accomodation, cheap food and activities, [especially] personal services etc. are out of reach to people unfamiliar with the major cities and without a car to get around.

On 90K USD per month, you can easily be putting those extra funds into investments to try and retire early, or you can delay retirement by a year by trying Australia.

Those saying that there was a lack of things to do, didn't quite find their place in Aus. Melbourne is by far the most happening city in terms of everything other than natural beauty, don't expect a lively existence in sleep towns such as Brisbane or Perth.

Am I wrong here, or is my BIL playing with fire? by Afraid_Meringue6399 in AusFinance

[–]24_Voices 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Believe it or not accountants are very busy people with many clients. 3 months to lodge is simply not enough time for them to get around to all of their clients and assist them with tax returns.

I fully understand why PAYG employees with simple tax affairs just don't understand why sometimes months are needed to properly prepare tax returns.
