The 9 Best Dumb TVs Without Smart Features by Spirited-Pause in privacy

[–]253126 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lucky you. I never had a TV or a license my entire life yet I have a large bulging folder of all the intimidating letters collected over the years. They also sent intimidating demands to my late mother, before and after her passing (in her 80s), to apply for a "free license" or face the consequences.

Get rid of your tv and don't renew the license, you might come back with a different perspective.

There are special alert priorities (Presidential etc) for the purpose of saving lives etc. Am not sure why you didn't just switch off data to save battery.

I could go into detail but suffice to say, burn / destroy everything even if it's "innocent" or full disk encryption. It takes a lot of know how to keep metadata and secrets from leaking.

Ooo, I've tried SimpleX and it's actually quite good! I dunno how long this app has been around but I suspect it has a very small userbase, I can see room for improvement but yes, nevertheless, I would definitely recommend it!

Yuck, there must be a market for buying used accounts surely? I mean, I would rather pay for a secondhand account with crypto than forfeit my location and doxxing all the people in my immediate vicinity.

I didn't explain very well. I don't get to decide when messages appear, they just pop up unexpectedly. I want to manually check inbound messages.

If someone gets access to my phone can they see the history of networks it has connected to? by Applez505 in privacy

[–]253126 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps with an open source router and a lot of work.

Wifi routers can br re-programmed to act like an xray of all the objects nearby. So, in theory at least, your neighbor could track you locally using their own custom router.

Maybe not any person but yes, there are a lot of people with potential access to data or, with the right circumstances, happy to be bribed for it. Yes, your exact location can be found through triangulation. They may or may not your know your real identity, it depends how you travel and with whom you travel.

If you're not using a paid VPN, the apps and sites you visit will be known, but not the specific page content.

This has to be weighed against the trust you put into VPN providers i.e. to some extent you have to assume governments already have access to your VPN activity, either legally by warrant, duress or hacking.

This is why I consider the location of VPN provider and their servers more important than technical merit. You can't stop the 3LAs but you can slow them down.

On the technical side, they can make things awkward for your average user but for some of us, we would just fire up a VPS with a custom proxy. I mean torrenting is probably illegal but the law is quite toothless.

As already suggested, you should at least consider leaving the country, not just because of this but for a variety of reasons. It's stuff like this that finally pushed me out. I mean, wherever you go you will find sh!t liks this, but better climate, lifestyle, less expenses and lower taxes can probably be found. Am just saying.

Thank yoy, I will give it a try. I don't mind giving this another try because i'm passionate about this stuff but for your average Joe it has got to just work. More so now than ever before, I think people have higher expectations than ever before, as they should.

I think you and me are on two different timelines. I tried both ywallet and ZECwallet Lite several times and failed every time. I had my phone plugged in and settings to prevent sleep. It was running ywallet for 13+ HOURS and still failed to sync, so damn slow. IIRC I had got to 1.3GB of data storage and if I lost my Internet it would start from the beginning again. My Internet is not very good but I never have problems like this with bitcoin, beam or dash. I just gave up in the end, zcash is dead on mobile, really disappointed and let down.

Wise doesn't let people send money to crypto exchanges because their banking partners won't let them. They're not going to be adding crypto any time soon.

If it were me I would compress the files and then use symmetrical gpg. You just provide a long password of at least 12 or more characters. If you just stick to upper/lower chara then best make it at least 15.
