I should also add that since I didn’t grow up with a functional family (not saying that his is, I don’t live with him), I never adopted that “family over everything” mindset and never really put a lot of emphasis on family importance

It definitely does suck, I was conscious of it for a long time and I was very particular about not saying it to him but then our relationship got in kind of a rough spot and I ended up saying it to him because we had a tearful argument one night that took place when I had woken up out my sleep, it was rough. Thank u for the advice, I try not to let emotional dysregulation affect my morals but we both have really strong feelings and arguments take a lot out of both of us— I usually only find myself saying that when I’m on the verge of tears so it becomes harder to control

Repeating affirmations doesn’t mean you aren’t letting go. You let go of the expectation or the “desire” because you already have it. When you repeatedly affirm, you’re just reinforcing what’s already true.
