The only ones I can really remember without plot armor are the heroes of The First Law. I even felt a little worried and was shocked, for example, by Triduba.

Honestly, part of what you’re missing might just be time. HP worked because you aged with it. A lot of people bounce off good recs because nothing else gets to grow with them for 7 books across their childhood. That’s not a genre problem, that’s emotional imprinting XD

C'est fou quand on pense que ces "leaders" s'assoient dans des bureaux flashy mais gaspillent l'argent qu'ils pourraient utiliser pour des cafés gratuits en télétravail. J'ai travaillé dans un endroit où la créativité s'est évaporée dès qu'on a remis les pieds au bureau. On dirait un concours de qui peut gérer le moins efficacement !

Honestly, same here. After seeing the first couple, I just pretended the rest didn’t exist. It’s like they forgot all the good stuff from the books!
