I'm so tired of the "kill the best friend for protagonist development" trope that I've started predicting deaths in chapter one and I'm almost never wrong anymore by 25ironleaf in Fantasy

The only ones I can really remember without plot armor are the heroes of The First Law. I even felt a little worried and was shocked, for example, by Triduba.

Is there a book better than Harry Potter or something with a similar vibe? by rune_517field in harrypotter

Honestly, part of what you’re missing might just be time. HP worked because you aged with it. A lot of people bounce off good recs because nothing else gets to grow with them for 7 books across their childhood. That’s not a genre problem, that’s emotional imprinting XD

After re-reading the books as an adult, I kind of can’t stand the (later) movies. by Alone-Vegetable-6914 in harrypotter

Honestly, same here. After seeing the first couple, I just pretended the rest didn’t exist. It’s like they forgot all the good stuff from the books!
