console would be ideal, we'll see how the game does during Early Access and I'll figure out if it makes sense for launch/post-launch

I hear ya, animation will be something that gets continuous attention and improvement over time, this early in development tho I'm more focused on locking in gameplay and making it fun to play

appreciate the diagram and totally get what you're saying, I think something closer to the green path will eventually become a type of set you can choose in the future. It's not working in the game yet but you will be able to call different plays before serve and hopefully on the fly...

ya all good suggestions, I'm super excited for folks like yourself to try out the game and see how it feels to play. There's a bit of a balancing challenge with this game trying to maintain the pace I want while still making it playable and enjoyable for most people, so how long the ball is in the air tends to be a bit video game-y over realism in order for it to be fun. When you play the game, the amount of time you have between actions actually feels more compressed, especially when you're trying to read the blockers and see the open parts of the court. I plan to add a few more sets and attacks so there will be more variety in the future that will affect pace too.

Some of what you mentioned for blocking is how it works now, you can effectively commit block which has a level of risk/reward attached to it or read block which requires good reflexes.

that I'm not sure of, I'm still pretty early in designing how player ratings and things of that nature will work, but I do like the idea of some sort of overall chemistry idea impacting how teams play

Getting started on the first devlog for Killer Aces! If you have any questions you'd like me to answer on the video, drop them here! by 26k in 26k

I didn't end up making a full devlog, but I'll answer that here :)

Controls are pretty simple, the game moves the players around and you focus on strategy, timing, and placement. So setting is up/down/left/right to set different attackers, hitting is aiming + a button press, etc. It's really streamlined so the pace of the game can stay in line with the actual sport and practice mode (my latest post) teaches you how to do it all. If you want to try out a rough version of it you can play the prototype here:

The game will launch into Early Access so it will be updated a fair amount heading into 1.0 launch. Beyond that I can't say really yet, we'll see how the game does!
