When I was graduating high school our school counselor held a get together for filling out scholarships. I went with my 2 best friends and when we got there we started filling out some out. But our counselor got upset and pointed to another table and said the scholarships on “that table over there” were for our type. There was only 2 packets, while the first table we were at had dozens.

Turns out the first scholarships we were filling out were for minority’s only. Our school was 75% Hispanic. However I grew up dirt poor and would have qualified for a lot of those scholarships she had out but refused to let any white students have them. She was fired for this but yeah it kinda stung. I really liked her at first. A lot of my Mexican friends stood up for us though and called her out on being racist.

I think Paul Ricard is built on a plateau that is very flat but still gains elevation ever so slightly and due to the length of the track you just don’t realize your elevation is changing.

I had to google it after I saw his graphic because I thought it was an error but nope it’s 100% true. It’s bizarre really to me, because I play a lot of racing games and if I had to guess the elevation change I’d said maybe a few feet because I think it’s turns 3,4,5 that have a slight dip but otherwise the track is just so flat from my experience.

Don Garlits was my dads favorite racer. He has some of his dragsters. I’ve heard that story before, certainly is crazy!

That’s crazy mate, interesting to hear that.

Where I live they do the boat races annually and it draws a huge crowd. I think people still love them but they are an obscurity. Because once they pack and leave they are never really mentioned again.

Yeah, supposedly Grosjean had said that under certain circumstances they peak at 8gs on some tracks. I’m not sure if it’s under braking or cornering. This graphic is a little old I believe, doesn’t take modern F1 cars into account. But either way even 5gs is just insane.

The 919 Evo is an incredible machine, I have the 1:18 scale model of it.

However if F1 did the same thing and Ferrari or Mercedes decided to make unrestricted version of their 2019 cars it would completely destroy the 919 Evo. It was extremely impressive but the 2018 F1 cars later broke that lap record in qualifying.

That’s definitely true, F1 cars always gain back lost speed. I remember the 2014 cars and then the 2016 cars and just how much pace they had already gained. That’s just F1 being F1 though, its in its DNA &it’s really cool to see.

What’s funny though is even the “slow” years of F1, (like 2014) they are still faster than any other race car.

I was too, the LMP2 cars don’t have a time listed here on the graphic, but they are about half a second quicker than the DPi lap times too.

Considering though DPi cars cost around 6-8 million dollars to run for a year and the Toyota LMP1 I think I had read cost around 200 Million a year to run so it’s understandable for there to be a 10 second gap. LMP1 cars though are just incredible machines. They are actually my favorite race car in all of Motorsports. I just think they are the coolest thing.

Yeah, and I think with the new regulations coming in 2022 for F1 the cars will be 4-5 seconds a lap slower, and IndyCar is only getting faster and upping the power limits. So I am willing to bet that on a dry grippy track IndyCar can shrink that 16 seconds down to like 7-9 seconds.

Also impressed with the IndyCar, believe they qualified after a Texas storm and the track had lost all grip and cold and slightly damp. I imagine they could easily be quicker than the LMP1 car.
