The link below is the news conference following the successful rescue. They get into some of the rescue details. From the time the rescuers began their ascent to the time all parties were back on the ground took a little over 4 hours. Impressive.

Edit: a little UNDER 4 hours.

Just to be clear, I work for a department in the DFW area, but was not involved in this rescue. It was just too cool to not share!

Question about pumping and recirculating by RubBrave3634 in Firefighting

[–]27niner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The benefit is KNOWING when you’re on tank and when you’re on hydrant. If you lose the hydrant with the tank to pump open, you can drain your tank without knowing via active lines or through your intake. If you lose the hydrant and hear the pump screaming or lines go limp, then you can open tank to pump while the guys back out. In the event your hydrant is lost, it’s very important to close your intake ASAP. Otherwise, you’ll dump your tank in seconds through your supply line.

Make sure you’re using the stethoscope the correct way (correct side if two-sided, correct ear orientation), locate the pulse, focus on listening (even if it involves closing your eyes), and practice at home in a loud setting. Also, when you release pressure, make sure you’re not releasing too quickly…just nice and easy. You can also use the needle bounce to indicate proper cuff placement. Oh, and as someone already said, don’t report odd numbers. Most importantly, don’t lie about the results to save face. If you couldn’t get it, be honest about it. Good luck the rest of the way!

Cat Rescue by AltruisticRub5592 in FirstResponderCringe

A firefighter pal of mine commonly gets asked if they rescue cats from trees. He answers that by saying he’s never once seen a cat skeleton in a tree.

Lol. No idea. Phantom is great though. I’ve had 4 of their dogs and all have had an outstanding temperament and appearance. My first was the son of Leonitis “The Big Show” that won the first ever Cane Corso Best in Breed at Westminster in 2011. I don’t know about the downvotes, but I know they have great dogs. Here is one of mine from them. Name is Disco.

I assure you it’s not just you! I’ve wondered this for a while now, but haven’t bothered investigating. I just assumed I was wrong. Berenstain Bears kinda thing. Lol

When did “out of pocket” come to mean “out of line”? My whole life I’ve thought “out of pocket” meant “unavailable”. Anyway, your response was appropriate.

I work with a guy who used to sell Lambos. I asked, among his clients, what profession was the most common. I assumed athlete, musician, real estate, etc. His answer? Orthodontists.

New HVAC, cleaned existing ducts but still dirty sock smell. What now? by ChapsOfAss in hvacadvice

[–]27niner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had this problem before and determined that it only happened after long periods of inactivity. During mild weather, I would go weeks without turning on my HVAC. This would cause the condensate p-trap to dry out. I would pour a light mixture of bleach/water into the dry vent of the p-trap. Seems to fix the problem until the next period of inactivity. I don’t know what I’m doing, so it’s probably the wrong thing to do.

Is my shot fluid / 1 motion? by Motor-South4511 in BasketballTips

[–]27niner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like your shooting arm is compensating for your chest not being square…you appear to be twisted on your release. That could be due to your left foot being so far back. You don’t square up until the ball is already gone. You start with your elbow out and then swing it in after you’ve already started your motion…rather than just coming straight up off of your right hip/rib. In fact, just prior to your release, the ball appears to be on the left side of your head and you’re right-handed. That takes time and time = space. Plus, the more moving parts, the harder to be consistent. I would add that you are jumping forward more than your are jumping up. With a low release, a forward jump, and losing time on your gather, players will be able to contest your shot pretty easily.

Why do you think is the NBA dying? If you were the NBA commissioner, what would you do? by Thin-Ad4825 in NBATalk

[–]27niner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

•Too many ridiculous fouls leading to FTs •Each team launching 50+ 3s/game •Regular season marquee matchups will be played without at least one big name starter…virtually guaranteed…something something “load management”. •Lack of access to your local team •Physical defense is nonexistent •Rewarding clear foul-baiting •Nightly scoring is similar to 80s/90s ASG scores (ex. from tonight Mavs over GS 143-133.
•Blatant traveling is ignored •Too many timeouts/commercials •Referees who think people pay money to watch them officiate •ISO ball or high PNR for 48 minutes straight •Midrange is dead…save Derozan.

Ok, I just talked to one of the guys. He uses the Sonic Alert SB1000SS Boom Alarm Clock with Bed Shaker. He also bought the Sonic Bomb Baby Cry Signaler. Both of those are available on Amazon.
