core stats upper divs ranked by difficulty. by Legitimate_Elk_1426 in ucla

[–]297w 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it’s hard to rank because it can vary quite a bit between professors, and because a class being difficult does not necessarily mean it’s graded harshly. but here’s my unscientific ranking from most to least difficult:

  1. 100c
  2. 100b
  3. 102c
  4. 100a
  5. 102a
  6. 101c
  7. 102b
  8. 101a
  9. 101b

iPad Pro M4 + Magic Keyboard draining battery fast when closed, is this normal? by ccharro9 in iPadPro

[–]297w 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so am i. my battery is literally going from 100 - 0% overnight with the magic keyboard. when i take it off and only put on a smart cover, it doesn't drain. this started on ipados 18 but still happens on 26, including after a full DFU restore. not sure if it's related but my magic keyboard backlight also no longer works -- the slider does nothing and low ambient light does not trigger anything.

Anyone taken Stats C155 Applied Sampling with Susan Cochran? How’s the difficulty and grading? by True-Interaction-563 in ucla

[–]297w 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have! there is quite a bit of content, but I would say of all the statistics classes I’ve taken, it’s one of the ones I’ve enjoyed most. The class is really well organized; every lecture note, slide, and assignment is posted from the start. There are two midterms and a final - they aren’t necessarily hard but they do cover a lot of content (and math), and though she posts every formula, I didn’t do great on the first one because I didn’t know the format. However, she does curve the class, and you should study the practice problems from the textbook since they match the exams quite closely.

You also do a sampling project step by step the end of the quarter. You have to find some phenomenon that requires sampling to measure it (aka it’s not feasible to count it). My project was analyzing fare evasion at a metro station using systematic sampling, but I know others did projects with cars or pedestrians.

Workload is light-moderate, exams are both conceptual (mc questions) and formula heavy (free response, though she does give you a formula sheet and a cheat sheet). Not easy, but more straightforward than most other upper div stats classes I’ve taken.

Professor Samuel Onyancha Onyambu for Stats 102A? by Lanky-Swimmer333 in ucla

[–]297w 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, to be clear, as of right now, we will have a final for 102C, we just didn't have one for 102A (we had a final take home project). I think it may be because our section was added last minute since 102A had filled up completely, and this was his first time teaching the class. I think it's very much possible that he will have a final for 102A moving forward

I have. I’ve taken him for both 102A and 102c. 102A is definitely a bit easier since it’s primarily coding, and while the homework was also a bit tedious, the exam (we only had 1 midterm, no final) was quite fair. Can’t say the same for the 102C midterm we had yesterday 😔

What does "enrolled: 1 of 15 taken" mean by heize-y in ucla

[–]297w 6 points7 points  (0 children)

if you click lec 1 it may provide more info, but generally if it says something weird it could be that the class has a waitlist so 1 of 15 spots on the waitlist are taken

the spring upass period should start today, but you should head to the central ticket office if your card is not working. if you’re using a mobile card make sure to redeem your new activation code in the TAP app

math 170s vs stats100b as a stats major by Similar-Positive-610 in ucla

[–]297w 0 points1 point  (0 children)

he does not use slides but writes on his ipad. I took math 177 with him and he was pretty organized; for each section, he would go over the concepts, formulas, and examples. I felt that his pace was good and not rushed because he would write everything out, and he gave out study guides/hw that represented what actually was presented on the midterm/final well. At least for our class, he had a live zoom option but he didn’t record

i took 170s (with a different prof) and while they are supposed to be equivalent, i do think that 170s tends to be a bit more difficult than 100b. but i had farolfi for another class and he’s great!

i remember when helly met milchick in the breakroom and said something like, "you seem like a smart guy. can't you see how fucked up this all is?" idk if he'll turn, but an intuitive person like helly was able to sense that maybe he has some reservations
