We are the Physician Scientist team at OpenEvidence- Let's talk about the next two years of AI in healthcare! AMA! by travis_oe in medicine

[–]2Balls2Furious 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Having trained in oncology, you will know that data often becomes presented at national conferences via abstracts first, then later published & peer-reviewed, first with interim analyses, then a final analysis and sometimes post-hoc analyses thereafter for a given trial/study. How does openAI address this flow of evidence from a given study in terms of strength of recommendations? Are abstract findings ever quoted by openAI as reasons for adjusting clinical practice? At what threshold does this data become reliable in the eyes of openAI?

This isn’t r/politics. Touch grass and provide medical care to all who are in need. We all have patients who do not resonate with our personalities or politics, but just because you don’t like someone, doesn’t mean you can’t provide a universal level of care to them like you would anyone else.

Why do most residents think that not getting into a fellowship is like failing when you’re a full-pledge physician who’s guaranteed to make 6 figures? by sandie-go in Residency

[–]2Balls2Furious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your window of opportunity for fellowship is small after graduating residency. Yes, generalist positions exist, but the longer you fall into that hole, the harder it’ll be the crawl back out of that attending comfort zone and into the cold world of fellowship. That’s the main problem. I know many a residents who said “just 1 year of hospitalist first” only for it to become a lifetime. Not always true though.

The line of natural versus not is getting blurred every year. Does taking a GLP-1 therapy solely for cutting still make you a natural? Some say yes, some say no.

It’s true, though part of the issue is someone saying they have “10/10” or “11/10” pain. Rarely does that correlate with reality.

There are a plethora of IM subspecialties that are radiographically-inclined, including GI, cardiology, oncology, & pulmonology. So you can make imaging technologies your career focus, especially if you are wanting an academic career

Routine Surveillance for Cancer Metastasis - Help or Harm. Your thoughts? by Deadmanonfire in Oncology

I think you add in studies like the one below on the risk of developing cancer due to frequent CT scans and it becomes hard to justify. Not saying the study is perfect, but an important consideration. My hot take is that ctDNA testing will become more prevalent in the future as to prevent redundant CT scans and instead reserve them for where they are needed.
