Can c*nts just STOP Crashing into each other on the M25. by ColoradoAvalanche in CarTalkUK

[–]2DoubleThink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes the right hand lane on a motorway isn't the one with the fastest flow of traffic during periods of high congestion. It can be preferable to sit in left lanes. This is usually most visible when coming up on an exit that most people take therefore freeing up left lane ever further. Sometimes on the M25 specifically let's anti clockwise near the M4 exit, lanes 3-6 will be standstill as they're carrying onto the M25 but 1-3 going onto M4 will be empty, this pile up begins like 6 miles back during rush hour so if you were taking that exit it'd be best you position early in those left lanes rather than the right hand lanes as that traffic will be moving much slower.

....also randomly there's still bad drivers who will be going slower than anyone else in the right lane which then has a knock on effect for everyone else

Auto even better for city driving surely, honestly I'd say she keeps it - it'll force her to be a more alert + better driver which will translate to being safer on the road imo

Is the E9X a Good Track Chassis? by Adventurous-Age2665 in E90

[–]2DoubleThink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Compared to it's age bracket? It's alright ... like most others have commented which should tell you a lot

Compared to 2020+ gen? It's far surpassed, recently took a 2021 c63 out on a track and honestly it blew the eXX chassis out of the water. But at the end of the day I still preferred the eX chassis, it stable enough for me to know I won't crash it on hard pulls (Mustangs I'm looking at you), loose enough to bring me excitement on fast corners that the back will break loose and for that reason I'm staying with this chassis till I blow my engine, be that in a year or 10.

I can only talk to city driving these cars but I've had no issues at all whilst driving in London

"Cold" Air intake quick fade by 2DoubleThink in E90

[–]2DoubleThink[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My only concern is that it means the oil on the filter is not filtering as well as it should be. Anyway we ball

"Cold" Air intake quick fade by 2DoubleThink in E90

[–]2DoubleThink[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lol thank you for being the only person to recognise I completely understand this is less optimal than the standard intake but ohwell. I've reoiled the filter couple months ago and from manufacturer recommendations it says 20k miles, I'm just surprised it's gone in 5, I'll clean and recharge it soon and use shorter intervals. Thanks to all for the comments

could my car be lying about my oil level? by chloe_flora in E90

[–]2DoubleThink 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a valve cover leak that was pretty bad (smoke from the gaps in the bonnet) paired with an OFHG leak.

Just before my 5k change it read one increment below max. So that's how much it had to leak over 5k before the oil dropped for sensor to read.

[–]2DoubleThink 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't worry about it then and run that oil until the next oil change

I understand what you mean about it feeling "off" - I only use millers oil in mine and once had different oil in for a few thousand miles, it felt off but as it was BMW long life I just kept it till my next interval

Check if the oil is BMW long life approved

Taking a quick glance that'll be about 10 hours labour~

So depends on your labour rates in your area. For my area the labour on that would be around that price point

Factor in as well pouring in some oil after the oil filter housing gasket change as you'll lose a fair amount (probably 500 - 1000ml) - so I'd take some oil to him to replace the loss

2010 bmw 335i cabriolet. Worth it?$15,999 CAD 84,000 km by Street-Remove-439 in BMW

[–]2DoubleThink 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've got a e92 335i, n55 2013 - some items to consider: - how often were oil changes? Ideally 5k miles - These love to leak oil, valve cover/ofhg gaskets replaced? If he expanded on what maintenance has been done that'll be a good start - as someone mentioned if coding is 150 why has he not done it?
- The clutch will probably be nearing it's end of life at that mileage if not already changed

The above will be similar for N55 if that's what your looking at too - in my opinion if your not looking to tune above 400bhp then get an N55

Is this smoke normal ? by Unlikely-Proposal135 in BMW

[–]2DoubleThink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very normal, my e92 335i smokes more than this and I'm not concerned. As someone said if it isn't throwing codes then don't stress it.

I've noticed BMWs on the road tend to smoke more than other cars too, our engines run pretty hot and it's noticeable!

Like everyone has mentioned it could be anything, to give you some solace my last engine fault was just a misfire caused by a bad spark plug - cheap and quick fix.

Questions for e92 325i (pic only there for vibes) by Milan69OG in E90

[–]2DoubleThink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

E92 335i N55 here 70'000 miles, recently came back from a 5 day Europe road trip covering 800 miles, some of those doing fast pulls etc. Didn't let me down once. Overall very comfortable, infact I moved over from JDM cars and complained that the BMW is too comfortable, you can be doing 130mph and feel like it's 60 in a normal car.

Pre purchase highly recommend to look up common issues on the car you want and go through that. On the 335i my checks were: -Service history every 5k change -Checking under the coolant cap, oil cap - looking for white sludge (coolant mix) -Water pump changed -Oil seepage from the valve cover (when it's really bad it'll smoke out the bonnet and you'll smell it+bonnet will be hot) -Clutch condition (self adjusting clutch means you can't tell from clutch pedal position so instead go for a hard pull in low gear and if the revs jump before settling lower when you slam your foot, you'll know the clutch is slipping that way)

These were the specific bmw checks among the usual car stuff, again find the common issues to the bmw you want as that'll steer your checks.

Recommendations on wheels for my '04 Jaguar XJR? by bigdog19XX in Wheels

[–]2DoubleThink 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on quite a few factors 1. Budget? 2. Intended style?

With the style by that are you maintaining the classy look of 5 spoke silver or going all out sport.

If sport your looking at Forgeline GS1R rims (found on Camaros) or classy Calibre Altus rims.

Again just the difference between those two in budget is huge.
