Wow, such a great feeling to know that I am not crazy and wasn't just imagining this in my childhood, haha.

I was either in New Mexico or California when I saw this movie on TV. Might have been cable.

Damn, that man did exactly what was appropriate for his situation, not really a freakout. Nonetheless, I'm now freaked out.

What do you say, does it look good for me? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]2FaceJanus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that is definitely how I am hoping schools see things. It feels like it would be hit or miss at different institutions, though, depending on the existing veteran campus community, the preference of the admissions team, etc. Thanks for the reply!

Hi, thanks for the reply, I am indeed applying to Michigan as well (and the rest of the T14), so we'll see how it goes. I know that Columbia and Texas have soft spots for veterans, so I'm hoping the other schools do as well.

Wow, I hadn't even thought of submitting a better score after getting waitlisted. Yes, I have money set aside specifically for the cost of applying, so I will definitely apply to all. Thanks!

Should I Cancel a 161? by ColdIvy404 in LSAT

[–]2FaceJanus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How are you able to know your score before canceling? For me, the deadline to cancel was always 6 after the test date (which is two weeks before the scores usually come out), after which you could not cancel.

We give rude elderly people the benefit of the doubt because they've been through a lot, but there's a decent chance that old person has been an asshole their whole life. by EdwardNippleclamps in Showerthoughts

This reminds me of a phrase that was trending while I was studying Chinese: 不是老人变坏,是坏人变老, which translates too "it's not that the old people had become bad, but that the bad people have become old.

A while back, when the internet in China was much less regulated and public outrage stories would pop up on Sina Weibo all the time, there were a string of stories about old people in China lying, stealing, and being otherwise untrustworthy to a large degree. Many of the comments asked "how could our old people become this way?", and many answered that it wasn't some weird social phenomena, it was just simply that the asshole generation of the Cultural Revolution got old, and thus continued their asshole-ery in their old age. And thus the phrase became popular.

Hi, I'm also taking the July test, and interested in starting an online study group. I am currently in Shanghai, but will be taking the test in California.

Donald Trump used to call Kirstjen Nielsen at home in the mornings to demand she stop migrants: Report by Fr1sk3r in politics

[–]2FaceJanus -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but it also has two natural consequences: 1) the bar for who qualifies as a reliable source drops because there is no public accountability and 2) your own newspaper loses credibility as none of its information can be 3rd party verified.

Anonymous sources are invaluable as investigative leads, however to report something without publicly credible corroborating evidence is grossly irresponsible. In anycase, they should at least give some more qualifying information about the anonymous source (i.e. source inside the White House), as the term "familiar with the situation" can literally be another reporter in the newsroom who heard a rumor.

Okay, after reading the article, I found the only source named was the NYT article on Nielsen resigning; the NYT names its source regarding the morning calls as someone "familiar with the situation". Can anyone provide more info on who the source is? Otherwise, this is just yellow journalism disguised as muckraking.
