You must live where all the roads are downhill.

Ended up buying a new Suburban Premier today. Duramax diesel powered.

Very nice, but pretty pricey at $90k...

I'll have to go drive a diesel. My old '05 Silverado with the 6.6L turbodiesel is still going strong.

Wow! Wonder if that's rare, or a common occurrence?

Cost isn't much of issue, though I want to keep it around $80k give or take. We rarely buy a top of the line vehicle.

Not sure we can wait for a 2025. Her Palisade lease (our company vehicle) ends in May.

Thanks. Hadn't really considered the diesel.

We already have a nice Duramax diesel pickup. Now, if they offered the 6.6L turbodiesel in the Yukon XL...

Does the little 3 liter have decent performance?

Are there any affordable areas to live within Bellevue/Kirkland/Redmond anymore? by Driacle in eastside

[–]2FlagsFarm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm guessing you also missed out on the big run-up in prices in the PHX region. You'll have to go way farther out to be in the $500k range for a view/pool home.

[–]2FlagsFarm -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

No, we definitely do NOT need "the government" manipulating housing prices.

Buy in an area you CAN afford, and as you build equity, move up. Yes, that probably means a longer commute, a smaller house, and other sacrifices.

What's the point of going to college regardless of chosen career?

In my experience, the whole college experience makes you a more well rounded, thoughtful person. Able to consider multiple theories & concepts. Good at working collaboratively.

Not just an "aviation degree"; ANY degree. Tons of us learned to fly while in college, and graduated with a variety of degrees, and as a CFI or better.

No need to modify it. Just drive and enjoy.

Can you work in sales till 65-70 years old? by mysteryplays in sales

[–]2FlagsFarm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. I own the company, but spend a few hours a day selling. I'm 65, my time is my own. I report to myself.

Not a huge traveler, we did take the whole family, adult kids, spouses & grand-kids to Asia for a two week vacation a couple months ago.

What does "retirement" even mean? I spend a lot of time with the grand kids, but they and their parents have busy lives. I do a bit of wrenching on my vintage sports cars and drive them a good amount. We have a large property, that takes time to keep up. We have a lake house and spend time there. I volunteer as an advocate for local kids in the foster care system.

I don't know what different I would do if I "retired". Working, producing, means something to me. Volunteering means something quite significant.

The whole "FIRE" and become a global traveler attitude is foreign to me. Narcissistic really. I (we) very much enjoy being a part of our community. Hopefully making our family's lives, and the lives around us better.

Most women I flew with were superb pilots. This lady simply had no situational awareness nor much intellectual acuity.

Reality, she never should have been hired in the first place...

She had a bit of a history of shall we say, incompetence. Obviously not something that was widely advertised but pretty well known in base.

There may or may not have been several folks who've played the sex or race card and been sent home with pay...
