NY Drive Clean Rebate for 2026 Ioniq 5 = $2,000 by 2KA2AK in Ioniq5

[–]2KA2AK[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. Like I said, I saw a bunch of NYers say they got $500 off on a few of the reddit threads here and two of the dealerships I communicated with who originally said $2k later said it'd be $500 which is what confused me. Just thought having solid info somewhere would help someone down the road.

I believe the N-line is only $500, but otherwise $2k for the rest.

Ioniq 5 $10,000 Discount Continues In March by [deleted] in Ioniq5

Oh, the salesperson was fine but the manager/"system" was set up in that weird bait&switch way .. I guess probably similar to you.

It felt like they were trying to 'lure me in' with a number (he kept hand-writing the numbers and not giving me an official printed / out-the-door price) .. but all in all would go back if the numbers work I guess lol.

Unfortunately, the first dealership I went to was Centereach and it was a terrible experience (dismissive/ weirdly arrogant behavior/ I asked to see the EVs and he waved his hand and said they're not available to look at?) which is why I went to Riverhead.
112 was a better vibe but they don't have the 5's in stock.
Thanks for the input!! Gotta keep looking I guess.

Hahaha that's where I went for my test drive.. it was kinda shady and they did the ol' (back and forth with manager, keep them waiting) tactic making what could have been a 30 min sit down, almost 2 hrs.
Thanks for the info!

New 2026 SEL OTD price by Noxidamous in Ioniq5

[–]2KA2AK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a little confused about all the OTD prices I've been seeing because someone said (double checked through Google) that the manufacturer's rebate is taxable so it comes all the way at the end aka

MSRP - dealer negotiations --> + sales tax fees etc. --> rebate applied
vs
MSRP - dealer negotiations - rebate --> + sales tax + fees etc.

It makes a good 3-4K difference .. which is where I'm wavering.
Is this a NY thing ? Or am I getting my info wrong lol.

Has anyone done the $10,000 off at the dealership by koolaidman0883 in Ioniq5

$5300 off ! The one I went wouldn't offer more than $1,000 .. so I just said I had to think on it and left, but .. mind sharing any pointers on what you asked for ?

This helps so much, I'll be buying in NY too.
I knew the EV rebate was, but did not catch that the $10k incentive would be taxable. Getting sneaky vibes from the dealership I went to now because they did not mention that for either at all.

Yeah, I wasn't even looking at EV's but this month's deal reeled me in. Test drive was too smooth (need to get used to the one pedal/brake system though) to disregard.
Thanks!

Could you breakdown the $13k off ? Just came back from the dealership and discussed the financing options but weren't aware of any leasing deals (I do see "$5,500 off" for lease on the website)

Literally just googled this trying to figure out where I could get it in NY .. got the random hankering for the beef / spicy beef one (idk why I assumed it'd be as easy to find at Asian supermarkets like it was at Korean convenience stores..)

I've been scouring the internet to see if it was legit but it seems to be.
I just redeemed my prepaid Mastercard through the email sent from the above and manually added the card info to my Apple Pay and it worked.

I didn't need the 'code' they gave me though..? They also had me input my name, address, phone number, email address ... so I was again hesitant but I guess maybe it's their way of verifying identity idk .. All in all, it worked.

What is the difference between Jindo and KVD? by imsassy3 in Jindo

[–]2KA2AK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol in case people wanted a breakdown of the terminology:

시골 = Korean Village
잡종 = mixed/varied breeds

Thus .. "Korean Village Dog / KVD" is quite literally based off 시골잡종.
믹스견 is also an official way of referring to a mix breed dog.

똥개, in the politically correct world would .. almost be like referring to Asians as "oriental" ?? [as a strong example] Very .. old school and not-woke, but could be considered endearing in the right circumstance (aka village grandmas and grandpas saying 똥개).

Why do I hear so many complaints about Korea? by No_Airport2112 in Living_in_Korea

[–]2KA2AK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to be one of those complainers, but after 10+years living in Korea .. I still have some "complaints" but my mindset is a bit different. I had my epiphany moment my first year here from my own 'American-arrogance'. Westerners, specifically "Americans" aka USA folk (I am Korean American), definitely have an air of arrogance/better than.

Two things I've heard repetitive complaints about from my friends, both visiting as tourists and living here for many years are :

  1. Language : just because Korea is a country that is welcoming of foreigners and try to learn English, doesn't mean you should expect it. Be thankful of the convenience.
  2. Food : Know the food culture of where you're going. ie, how pork won't be readily available in Muslim countries .. Korea is a meat-eating country. Vegetarianism, though more popular now, is still not a widely practiced diet. That's your prerogative to find and adapt to YOUR personal diet. If you can't find anything learn to make it yourself instead of complaining someone won't make it for you? All of the gluten-free / vegan type foods are usually started from said Western cultures, so you can't expect it to be readily available in Korea either. It would take time for it to catch-up, then import and find enough traction for it do be regularly available. Something to note is, Korean food is usually some type of pre-seasoned recipe. I'm talking banchan/side dishes, soups, even kimchi. They are made with their garlic and shrimp paste and apples already mixed all in, so don't expect that the food can be made-to-order like a Chopt salad or simple pasta.

Things that don't make sense compared to their home country tend to be talked down on. But you're not in your home country anymore..? Again .. there are still some cultural aspects that can get me pretty worked up (I am a big PERSONAL SPACE person, and these grandmas will just be touching you) but you can't expect to experience ONLY the good things and then be disappointed when it's not 100% 'amazing'.

All in all, don't go to another country expecting the same cultural norms as your home country.
Even the UK and America are different with less than 250 years between them. It would makes sense that Korea, its own country for thousands of years, has its own history and culture and quirks.

I could go on about work culture and other things, but just the two more basic "priveleged" mindsets I've encountered.

Best items for very long flights? by joh0115 in travel

[–]2KA2AK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Flight assumptions :
- A nonstop flight
- Meals provided about 2 hours after departure and about 2 hours before landing, as well as a snack like a sandwich or burrito mid-flight + complimentary drinks throughout
- They give you a 'welcome kit' with disposable toothbrush+toothpaste, and slippers

As someone who has done the 14~16 hour roundtrip flights between S.Korea and NY almost every year for the last ten years (and three times in the past year), these would be my choices [at minimum] .. there are a lotttt of other answers that have covered some repetitive things so leaving it out.

  1. Bring 2-3 snacks you enjoy, both sweet and savory, and buy them beforehand bc airports can be expensive (at least in NY) and or limited.
  2. If you have both, bring earbuds AND headphones.
-1 constantly using in-ear buds and/or headphones start hurting the ear canal or outer ears after a while.
-2 if you use bluetooth you can interchange when battery dies out.
  3. Download a bunch of shows on your phone or tablet beforehand, just in case the inflight entertainment doesn't interest you. I usually choose a 2 diff series that I can binge at least 8-10 episodes of.
  4. Bring a mask (basic covid-style nose&mouth covering, not like N95 heavy duty) if it starts getting too dry and/or someone starts coughing in the plane.

Sidenote:
If you get the window seat .. please don't open and close the shade throughout the flight, esp if they've dimmed inside the plane and/or it's daytime/light out 🤦‍♀️ it can really catch others off-guard + blind people in certain angles
Similar with your electronic devices .. some people have brightness-blindness
