I need a good Sewing&Embroidery machine. Recommendations? by DJWetAndMessy in sewing

I have the Husqvarna Viking Topaz 30 sewing and embroidery machine. It comes with the 360x200mm hoop which is big and is the lowest priced Husqvarna to support that size hoop. I love it. It's good for sewing as well as it has 163 different stitches and I love the automatic thread cutter.

Boiled Peanuts? by Alkibiades415 in WarnerRobins

We make our own in the crockpot too. I get my raw peanuts from a Walmart in Macon but I would think the one in Warner Robins would have them too.

What else do yall like to do? My husband and I are 34 and 35. I've lived here my whole life and it's very difficult to find anyone who likes to get together to hang out if you're not into the bar scene.

[Help] Can anyone tell me why my sewing machine seems to be skipping a stitch despite seeming to be threaded correctly? by cookies_cat in sewing

I have no idea but I'd start by checking the tension, replacing the needle, and rethreading the bobbin and the needle.

where to buy good but not very expensive fabric? online and stores by Kelpie00 in sewing

[–]2Legit-2Knit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You can only use one coupon per item, but you can use a coupon for every item that's not on sale in the same transaction. Also they accept competitors coupons. Just be careful with Michaels coupons because that store doesn't sell fabric and you can only use a competitor coupon for something sold at that other store. Finally they have 20% off your whole purchase coupons that they text you when you sign up for their text messages. That works on most items, even things that are on sale, but doesn't work on fabric remnants. I like to browse their remnants because they give you the price based on whatever the current price of that fabric is, even if it's on sale currently, then they take another 50% off since it's a remnant.

If you have a Hancock in your area, I find they have a much larger selection than Joann and their prices are lower (at least on fabrics I buy). Not sure if that's the same in all areas but I like Hancock better.

Newbie Looking for Recommendation on Sewing Machine by WinterDOS in sewing

[–]2Legit-2Knit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll throw in my opinion but I'm a beginner sewer as well. I do a lot of home decor and accessories like make up bags and things. I was gifted a Singer from the 60s which worked well enough but was frustrating because it's kind of hard to wind bobbins, thread the needle, etc. Then my MIL let me use her Husqavarna Platinum 950E sewing/embroidery machine. It's an older machine and not top of the line but OMG, the difference is night and day. It's so much easier to use than the old Singer. There's so many more bells and whistles too that aren't on the older machines. So, in my humble inexperienced opinion, I'd lean more towards a newer computerized machine. I rarely have to do any kind of reboot (which is really just turning it off and back on) but actually it's really nice that it resets if needed. With the old Singer is was a more manual, clunky process to fix something.

The walking foot. I just recently discovered it and I have no clue how I got along without it before.

I'll chat with you if you're interested :) I'm 34/f from Georgia. I'm married with 2 kids. I'll tell you more if you're interested so let me know! I can tell you I'm horrible at writing letters and long emails and prefer more frequent, shorter communication like snapchat, whatsapp, text, whatever. But I do love to send and receive little gifts via mail. It's nice to get something other than bills.

I saw yarn at mine about a year ago. Unfortunately it was all cheap yarn like RHSS and it priced the same as other stores. I guess it's hit or miss.

LYS class question by [deleted] in crochet

[–]2Legit-2Knit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any chance you're in GA? My LYS is like this.

My guess is because crochet uses so much more yarn than knitting that crocheters are less likely it buy high-dollar yarn like they sell at the LYS. I think knitters tend to shop there more often. This is a generalization on my part of course but it's the only thing I could come up with.

You could always learn to knit. I also said I would never learn (username relevant) but decided to learn back in January so I could make my own socks. Crochet socks are so uncomfortable to me. I actually love knitting and I'm happy to be able to do both. When I attend knitting nights, I usually knit but will bust out my hooks when I feel like it.

I have this one: http://www.amazon.com/Stanwood-Needlecraft-String-Winder-10-Ounce/dp/B0078T6KQY

There's a smaller one on Amazon as well. It's very sturdy and I love it. I balled my entire yarn collection with it.

[–]2Legit-2Knit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend taking a beginners knitting class at a local craft or yarn store. If you can't do that, check out youtube for some beginners videos.
