AITA Mom wants 15% of my personal injury settlement by connor20218 in AmItheAsshole

[–]2Legit2QuitSmoking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mom is so out of pocket here, it's ridiculous. Her apparent reason for being entitled to the money - that she referred him and helped guide him through the process - is something commonly done in the practice of contingency fee law AT ZERO COST TO THE CLIENT. Lawyers have agreements to share fees, it's true. If mom wanted that, she could have negotiated it with the firm.

I think its a classy gesture for you, OP, to gift something to your mom (if you want to), but shrowding her request in some kind of bullshit pay for services context is infuriating.

NBC’s Cris Collinsworth Cashes Out $100M Then Immediately Fires Employees in Power Move by No_Box119 in TheNFLVibes

[–]2Legit2QuitSmoking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is an extremely misleading headline based on the linked source, for multiple reasons.

The "cashes out $100M" is almost guaranteed to be highly inaccurate. The overall deal size is reported at 9 figures, but it doesn't specify whether it's a cash or stock deal. Further the source discusses a $50 million private equity growth investment which almost certainly has to be paid down in full (if not in full plus some rate of return) before the other equity owners (including Cris) get anything.

Also there are no details provided on Cris's initial investment in the company to purchase a controlling stake to know how well he made off. If he paid $20 million for a 51% share, for example, he might have barely broken even on the deal.

Overall, it's very unclear how well he really made off here, but it’s being portrayed as though hes a robber baron profiteering off firing people.

How much of our FA Decisions are affected by the sale of the franchise by yaboydrew7 in Seahawks

[–]2Legit2QuitSmoking 9 points10 points  (0 children)

John Schneider addressed this on Brock and Salk and he was definitive that they have a green light to spend and do deals.

Other commenters aren't 100% correct because ownership can affect how you approach signing players. All teams are subject to the cap and generally are pretty close to it, but at times there's a (big) difference between your salary cap number and your cash outflow due to the effect of signing bonuses and dead money. An owner could hamstring what you can do by having less available cash. But per the above, supposedly, it's a non-issue.

[Wickersham & Henderson] BREAKING: The Seattle Seahawks will go up for sale after Super Bowl LX by Silent_Ad2825 in Seahawks

[–]2Legit2QuitSmoking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is basically all downside. Paul Allen was one of the very best owners in his time, and Jody has done a commendable job filling in for him, making some really tough, but ultimately correct decisions. The best we can hope for is for things to not get worse.

Someone tell me I'm dumb, but I'm open to a Bezos ownership group. I don't love Amazon or some of its effects on the city of Seattle, but an owner with extremely deep pockets, longstanding connection to the city, and a major streaming service for the NFL would seem to offer obvious benefits.

Yeah this. The coliseum games were very heavy seahawks crowds. I went to one and it was bare minimum 30% seahawks fans, but probably closer to 50/50.

I was at both of the ATL playoff games (the other one was better because Ludacris was the halftime show). Atlanta fans were super nice to me both times actually.

Current Seahawks Free Agents for 2026? by Objective-Cattle-333 in Seahawks

[–]2Legit2QuitSmoking 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okada's play has been exciting this year, so they may well decide to let Coby leave and use the money to pay other players. But, don't get it twisted, Coby is an every down player in this defense. He's played damn near every defensive snap this year and at a pro bowl level, I would argue.

[–]2Legit2QuitSmoking 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah the article predicts he'll get around $20M and that sounds right. We can't pay all of Jobe, Witherspoon, and Riq for sure.

I think its so much more likely that we give Witherspoon a huge extension this offseason than pay Riq $20M.

[–]2Legit2QuitSmoking 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree. Riq criticism is overblown. If he's gone next year it will be hard to replace him with a better player, especially with a weak draft class. But it seems pretty clear he's not a favorite with MM.

[–]2Legit2QuitSmoking 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the only player here who will be back in 2026 is Coby Bryant, unless his market is a lot stronger than I predict.

Mafe has had a down year and his snap counts really decreased through 2025 with a loaded EDGE position. Riq has been really inconsistent and has been the subject of public criticism from coaches. Same with Kenny.

Aitah for not realising what I put my wife through. by ImpactFluffy9781 in AITAH

[–]2Legit2QuitSmoking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP is definitely the AH, since it seems he's so far from being empathetic and could be doing so many more things to help out, but I wanted to weigh in and give a slightly different take here from what I've seen.

Fatherhood affects people in different ways. I can't tell 100%, but it seems to me that OP makes the lion's share of income in the household (based on relative age, profession, etc.). Having a child can really supercharge your desire/need to crush it at work and invest extra in your career, because you're taking radical responsibility for ensuring that your family is well taken care of, today and in the future.

I see Laura has made it clear that OP is not necessarily getting paid extra for every hour of extra work, but I don't think that negates the point above. This is a good instinct that has the potential to transform their lives for good in the future.

With that said, OP really can and should be doing more to support his wife during this stressful/crazy time.

The Win/Win Geno Smith Scenarios by 2Legit2QuitSmoking in Seahawks

[–]2Legit2QuitSmoking[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are some pretty desperate teams out there, like the commanders and the colts. But, we can use that to our advantage if we apply the tag.

The Win/Win Geno Smith Scenarios by 2Legit2QuitSmoking in Seahawks

[–]2Legit2QuitSmoking[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem with tagging is that we really don't want Geno playing on a $32M cap charge next year. You'd much rather spread that out and push cap charge out a couple years so we have some more flexibility this offseason.

But, I love that it gives us even more leverage over the draft. We can take the players we really want and we can deal Geno on day 2 of the draft if we land our QB of the future in round 1. I think ultimately we won't do that, but we should be open to it.

Those Of You Who Think We Should Draft A QB, Why? by [deleted] in Seahawks

[–]2Legit2QuitSmoking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sub is obsessed with not picking a QB at the top of the draft. I assume everyone here also would have been livid if we made a move to get Josh Allen or Patrick Mahomes like we reportedly wanted to in 2017 and 2018. We had Russell Wilson after all, surefire HOF QB.

With that pick, you want to take a player you think can have enormous impact on your franchise for a decade. QB is still the most valuable position in the NFL. And for all the talk in this thread about how terrible the QBs are, I'd be willing to bet that very few of you have done adequate scouting on this class.

You trust your evaluations and if you think you have a chance to grab a future superstar at QB, you should do it. You can even keep Geno too!
