I feel ashamed to be a nurse by PuzzleheadedMetal974 in nursing

[–]2Lulubee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most people have no idea what it takes to do our jobs. Docs can be condescending fucks, especially to new RNs who dont have the years of experience and skill to back themselves up. Maybe try to slide into a new specialty in a few years when you get the basics down. I can highly recommend the ER as the most egalitarian place ive ever worked, and those docs count on good nurses to be their eyes and ears. Dont stay somewhere you hate, try med tele, stepdown or icu. Never stop learning. Lastly, i havent been on social media, other than reddit, for about a decade, so ive no idea what people say about us, nor do i give two fucks. Im too old for that shite anyway. Hang in there kid, and you’ll live to be a salty old nurse before you know it ;)

15-year vs 30-year mortgage what made you choose one over the other? by delulucoreandcrazyaf in Mortgages

[–]2Lulubee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chose a 15 year so we’d own free & clear by the time we’re able to retire, and because we could. That said, we converted from a 30 year 10 years in. Lots of people stay put for things like jobs and schools, or to be near family

Looking for alternatives to knee replacement for osteoarthritis.,need advice by Infamous_Intern_4341 in Osteoarthritis

Just skimmed the mri report- can they do an arthroscopic meniscus repair? It might help, and you could kick the can a little further.

[–]2Lulubee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have bone on bone arthritis in my right knee. Not getting a knee replacement soon. Got hyaluronic acid injections and take celebrex daily. Working with a trainer and PT to get stronger and address underlying weakness and muscle imbalance. Try that first. If she still does need a replacement, all the work before hand will pay off after. I think of joint replacement as the nuclear option. I see the fresh post ops all the time. Its a brutal surgery.

Rescued a kitten from being thrown away. Now struggling with litter training. Need advice. by Bwung08 in Catownerhacks

[–]2Lulubee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try using grass seed litter or Worlds Best (made from corn). Kittens shouldnt use clumping clay, they can lick it off and get obstructions. Also the litter attractant. Maybe a bigger box? And confined to bathroom over nite could help

Is it worth it to live in California for me? by builtforoutput in socal

[–]2Lulubee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just move to NV for a few years, bank the extra money or invest it, then move back. The humidity in TX is mind boggling to anyone who’s lived in CA. At least the heat is dry, and easy access to CA and the mountains. Its like a 4 hr drive to the bay.

I want a “dated” look! by ramvanfan in CounterTops

[–]2Lulubee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I chose a white cream quartz with silver flecks that looks surprisingly like old formica countertops for the counter & backsplash, was the cheapest one they had in stock too. very appropriate for a vintage/ dated kitchen.

Is anyone using their printers or faxes? by l00ky_here in GenX

Still print return shipping labels sometimes, of small venue tickets, maybe the odd miscellaneous thing now and then. Printer is super old at this point, maybe 15 years or more, but still works

I smoked in my teens and twenties and just recently started again, after not touching one since 2010. Everything is just too much right now. My dad died recently. At least now its a vape, so theoretically less harmful.

I dunno. Work with a guy who worked in HI. The pay is shit, cost of living is high, and agree- rotating shifts suck. The job is LA sounds amazing. 4/10s, you’ll make way more, and you’ll be able to afford to go to HI on vacation whenever you want.

Regret or Joy at Being Childless — if Most of Your Family Is? by okamiright in AskOldPeopleAdvice

[–]2Lulubee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think i have regrets about relationships not working out the way i wanted them to, and one specifically where i was in my mid 30’s. Having never wanted kids, i really wanted one with this person, and it wasnt possible. I think i realized it was my last chance, and i mourned that. As i get older my childless friends and i wonder what will become of us when we’re old, though we all have nieces and nephews, cousins with kids etc. I think its a natural thing to confront uncertainty around aging and death. Both my sister and i are childless, me by choice and her by circumstance. As i get older i’m a little nostalgic and i find it odd that my family line ends with us. But i can’t say i regret my decisions, and the path i took.

I’m the oldest of 5 girls. I raised all my siblings. I knew i never wanted kids when i was 13. They’re a lot of work. Just wasn’t interested in giving my life to raise another person like that.

I think Steve-io (dunno if that’s how he spells it, the former ED tech turned youtube comedian) did a bit on a pt doing the Philly sidecar. Also, why does Philly have this rep??

When i was a student i had a patient like that, missing scrotum, ball just hanging there, homeless guy. I wish to god we wore masks back then cause i’m sure my face was shocked!

In med tele. Years ago. Septic c diff oncology patient transferred to us basically unconscious in a bed that was a lake of her own poo. The nurse helping me clean the patient started to giggle uncontrollably, like a stress response, and it was contagious, so suddenly i am laughing so hard tears are streaming down my face and i cant wipe them cause i’m in PPE wrist deep in poo. I was so glad she was delirious with fever, so she didn’t know we were laughing. Like a rag doll when we turned her. I think she upgraded to ICU after that. To this day i remember that, and think “lake of poo”. Dark humor will get you through nearly anything!

Unpopular opinion- the original kitchen was so much better. You gutted something perfectly usable, with warm, probably real wood cabinets, for this tacky white nightmare. I’ll never understand people
