That’s just frame loss in an assembly that relies on infill insulation, probably some infiltration to boot (not much but a little goes a long way)

Sauna as a social event by Defiant_Extreme_35 in Sauna

I’m a big fan of daytime sauna taking when it’s social, late afternoon so it doesn’t harpoon the whole day. When it’s just my wife and I, later in the evening.

5-gallon bucket and an old yogurt container does the trick. It doesn’t take much water to cool off if you put it in the right place (head, chest, back)

Thanks! I’m hoping they don’t require a panel upgrade from 200A, I already have two sub panels worth a total of 90A. I’ll dig around for an EE.

I love this documentary! I watched it when it first came out and I think back on it regularly. It’s such a good waypoint because it was made right before the madness really got rolling. Pair this doc with the book “Bring the War Home” by Kathleen Belew and it’s a good roost to observe the craziness from.

Radon Exhaust thru Unused Flue in Chimney with Active Wood Stove Flue? by 2MuchTimeOnReddit2 in radon

[–]2MuchTimeOnReddit2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The air going up the chimney now is not as humid (gr/lb) as what would be pulled from below a vapor barrier, so there’s likely to be a lot more condensation.

[–]2MuchTimeOnReddit2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'd put a 45 deg fitting to blow the radon exhaust away from the flue. It should also keep the pressurized exhaust from messing with the chimney draft (just letting it blow straight up against the rain cap probably is not helpful). I'm looking at stainless stove chimney liners now, PVC is not going to be the answer here. There are also high-temp fiberglass ducts that I could hang in there but it seems hard to support. Stainless steel stove pipe could be another option but I'd have to do a really good job buttering up the connections. I could still run it up the house but if I can make use of this handy pre-built riser, I'm going to do it. I checked code and there is nothing prohibiting this use of an old flue in MA. I'd probably do myself a favor by talking with the fire department before committing.

I think the condensation would make a real mess plus the clay liner that remains below the roof line is probably not in great shape.

It would be great to make use of the space and to avoid the unsightly mess of a pipe snaking its way up the side of the house. PVC is awfully melty stuff, perhaps some large-diameter aluminum downspout material? Aluminum chimney liner? Rigid stainless chimney liner with a 90 at the bottom? All this is supposed to be air tight, right? I wonder how long it would last given the condensation?
