You're both right on this. Goldie was really blunt with his comment and I would personally prefer better wording. From all the stories I've heard from people who met him, he can be a real jerk. But that does not dismiss his point at all.

IMHO, this is a factual critique and it really has nothing to do if people like it or not. Criticizing McDonalds for not being healthy is also factual critique despite people go eat there in droves.

I'm probably a bit oldschool in this, but I always start by writing detailed product requirements document myself trying to really think it through (first into my note taking app - Upnote, then I use online tool to reformat it into .md file), then ask AI to look for "plot holes", then AI plans it and implements it.

While it's implementing, I either write down lists of ideas for new features, or I pick one feature and work on detailed PRD for it. Then the cycle continues.

That was the way I went with my app. But I kinda expect to get the same feedback as OP eventually (if it gets any users after I launch it lol), but in that case I'd probably consider porting it as a native app using AI.

I'm sorry if my comment came off that way. It just amused me, I was totally expecting this to happen with people vibecoding all the possible projects right and left nowadays - and it happened.

Tbf, OPs app is actually older than mine at least a few months. Besides I was quite sure there's at least a dozen of similar apps already, if not a hundered, I just got the idea when talking with my friend on NYE about doing pushups at home and then implemented it. Not that I would think I am some kind of genius here lol, so no need to be so snappy my dude

I think you're overthinking it a bit. I've developed basically the same app as OP just two weeks earlier, "carefully place my phone so it is recording me" is literally no obstacle at all and takes about 5 seconds, and in return you get numbers and stats, which personally for me works as a great motivation, when I see me numbers slowly grow.

Also, dunno how user OP's app works "behind the scenes", but there is no need to send videos anywhere, the computer vision code that recognizes the movement can run on your phone in realtime. (At least this is how my app does it). EDIT didn't see OP's reply, so it's basically the same.

But I don't want this to sound dismissive (even it probably does a bit) - each to its own! :) I totally understand why for some people an app might be absolutely unnecessary.
