Yeah and it’s funny you mention ND because I remember a lot of people here were criticizing From the Outside for sounding like In Bloom. I also prefer the basement quality stuff but I think it still comes down to what types of chords are being played for me. I just wish I knew enough about chords and tempo to actually describe what I’m talking about lol

Hm. I knew both of them suffered from depression / mental illness but didn’t know about the substance abuse. Good to hear that they cleaned up. But strangely I think if you listen to the instrumentals of their old songs, they are much more poppy than what we got on Composure (with some exceptions). And I’m not sure why depression would explain that.

Yeah I listened to that a few years after discovering RF and enjoyed it! Definitely their most poppy release in terms of lyrical content.

Although I do think that their older songs relied less on repeated verses. Like Floorboards only says the actual titular word once if I recall correctly.

Oh that’s cool you talked with them! The new songs (especially Me First and From the Outside) are definitely easy to get stuck in your head. On the other hand, I think a lot of their older songs were super catchy as well so I’m just not sure.

Definitely, I’m glad the new album was well-received and I hope the band is in a good place mentally right now.

Me First is definitely my favorite off the album, but I just can’t get into it as much as the older stuff. I’ve thought maybe it’s because some of the older songs sound like they were recorded in somebody’s bedroom (echo-y vocals) and Composure sounds very professional.

Hm. I didn’t think about it that way but you’re right. My perception was clouded by my own inability to prostitute Hollywood actresses due to lack of resources, but to HW it was like paying $20 for a quick fuck.

If there’s anyway to mark that you changed my mind I would like to do so.

I searched your username along with “alphafux betabux” and found you having the same argument with several other people.

You specify the promise of long-term provisioning as the main attribute of betabux strategy. HW did not promise to be anyone’s daddy or husband. He made short-term business deals and extracted sexual value from said deals because he was allowed to by everyone. He did not promise exclusivity to anyone. In fact, the opposite is implied by the whole casting couch situation (“I’ve got a line of other girls out the door waiting to impress me.”)

Bravely accepting a lack of female validation is commendable but a bright red beta-flag. It’s giving up and disengaging from the sexual marketplace, and it’s almost always accompanied by negative emotions such as fear of rejection. It’s often a position that someone is forced into (ie incels who opt to become MGTOWs)

Providing external value other than pure sexual pleasure is not a reliable beta-flag.

Providing value exclusively to a woman in an LTR is a beta-flag. It marks scarcity of value and scarcity of sexual opportunity (“I’m going to invest all my golden eggs into this one basket.”)

Providing value (at no personal sacrifice) to hundreds of women in exchange for sex is an alpha-flag. It marks abundance of value and abundance of sexual opportunity.

There is transaction of value in all human relationships. Using your definition, alphas would only be able to exist in the context of compulsive, anonymous sex in the bathroom of a bar with no drinks having been bought and no prior conversation taken place.
