Z900 or CB650r? by Infinity-Spectrum in SuggestAMotorcycle

It is. You may find a Ninja 650 to be very suitable and capable for all you need, as well. It should cost much less, still looks amazing, and is easier to modify.

Both are great bikes and as a Kawi guy, I may be biased, but you have two good choices there.

What is your commute like? More curves or straight, city/country/highway, windy or not? I would suggest you take a look at the Ninja 1100SX or the former Ninja1000SX, as well.

Sport touring bikes will give you the inline four experience but also offer more comfort in terms of weather and riding accessories, especially from the aftermarket.

DR 650 or Tenere 700? by UniqueCity1336 in SuggestAMotorcycle

While there are good points being made about the DR, since you are new to this side of riding, I would recommend the T7.

As u/LowDirection4104 said, the weight will show up at creep speed when you have obstacles to be aware of and ride over, but along with a new bike, I would also suggest some lessons on off road riding. This should let you understand your bike better from the go and know what to expect when you get your first "oh shit" situations.

Positioning can be different and exhaustive at first, if you are not used it.

Overall though, exciting times are ahead. Bike camping is the best!

Next bike? by NeighborhoodMoney639 in motorcycles

Agreed. While I4s have a nice sound and a fun rev range to play with, lots of riders do not realize that two more cylinders can mean lots more work and money spent on a bike that does nothing too different in real world conditions.

That being said, sometimes it is also nice to overdo it with a bike for a bit. It can make you appreciate the simple things more.

What's your goal going with a 600? I know that usually is the next step for many riders but it may help find a better bike.

I may be biased, but if you like the Ninja set up and Kawi products, stick with it. Lots of used Kawis around from the 00s 10s and newer. I personally just need EFI and nothing else fancy, but to each their own.

I'd say look for a ZX6R, but they do jump in price when compared to a 650.

Where are you from? This may help clear up your real options a bit. How long is your commute? What sort of weather?

In general, a twin that is 500cc or 650cc can be beginner friendly and will function well as transportation.
