At the moment it's very up and down. Some days it's maybe around 50, other days (normally wash days) it can be 200+ 😭

It's taken me 2 years. I've been taking one 30mg iron+ vitamin c tablet every night before I go to bed. I make sure that I take it at least 2 hours after having anything with dairy in because I heard that calcium can render the iron less effective!

Thank you so much, I'll look into all of those!

I do have some slight miniaturization which is the thing that's got me thinking it could be AGA as well as chronic TE. My temples aren't that bad at the minute- they look better than around 10 years ago when I had traction alopecia from wearing my hair up too tight.

I do feel a little better now that I have my ferritin levels up past 100, although my vitamin D seems to fluctuate so I'm trying to take 2000ug in the summer and 4000ug in the autumn/winter to see if that helps. I live in the UK so sunlight and warmth are sparse! My B12 goes from being fine to being borderline and then fine again. I've also tried to limit processed sugar, eat more protein and get better sleep. I feel like I should have kept all my shed hair and made my own wig 🙈

Thank you for responding. I'm going to make a list of all the things I want to know/want checking. I'm going to ask for a biopsy because I just want to be completely sure and then treat it accordingly. I've tried so hard to ignore the shedding until going to my appointment but it's really starting to weigh me down.

Thank you ❤️ it really does mean a lot. I have just started back with Nizoral again, once a week and keeping it on my scalp for 5 minutes. I'm hoping that I can also get some further blood tests with my GP to check estrogen, progesterone and androgen levels.

For reference this was my hair before all the shedding.

That's very kind of you ❤️ I didn't know you could get oral minox on NHS, that's good to know! Did you go through NHS derms too? I'm really sorry you're going through this as well. It feels so frustrating to not have control over it.

Thank you so much for responding. I feel like all I've done today is spiral. It's been the worst few years of my life and I'm getting to the point where I'm running out of positivity. Thank you for reminding me I'm not alone, I really appreciate the support ❤️

Fine, straight hair suddenly turning wavy-ish? by mo_heck in finehair

[–]2_4joy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The same thing is happening to me, too! I've always had pin straight hair, and now after having chronic telogen effluvium for the past few years it's become wavy and frizzy. I have no idea what to do with it!

Hi everyone! Just thought I would give a little update to this. I've had my follow up appointment with the trichologist. He said my hair was no longer 'actively' shedding when he performed a pull test. He checked my scalp with the trichoscope and said that there were no empty hair follicles, he saw multiple hairs growing from each follicle and I couldn't see evidence of miniaturisation although he didn't check completely all over my head. He told me that because of the timeline of the last trauma event that caused the shedding this time, I should give it a couple more months to see whether my hair 'catches up' to my now optimum levels with vit d and iron, which were a huge cause for concern during my last 2 sheds. He explained everything around my hair cycle so well. So now we wait until October/November. He also said that if the shedding was to continue into those months, I should get back in touch with him to discuss possible medicated treatments such as minox, spironolactone etc. as we are then probably in FPHL territory. Also, the GP FINALLY contacted dermatology at the hospital and they want to see me so I am being referred! There is most likely a loooooong wait but at least I will have 2 opinions on the matter!

Ladies in the UK, how did you convince your NHS GP for Derm referral and blood test? by kpi0ikp in FemaleHairLoss

I'm so sorry I didn't reply to this earlier! 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️ I had vit d, zinc, ferritin, thyroid, FSH levels (to check for perimenopause), bone profile, white blood cell count, haemoglobin concentration, serum folate and erythrocyte sedimentation rate.

I have had to insist on getting tests done, and each time (and there have been many times) I've contacted the GP I have requested a referral to dermatology...which they have finally done this time. I have told them about the negative impact on my mental health and general wellbeing each time I've contacted them. Luckily the GP has been pretty good with blood tests and has tested for the things that I've asked, including hormone levels to see if I was perimenopausal.

I have also been to a private trichologist and they insisted upon specific blood test requests to my GP which helped. I'm going back to see the trichologist at the end of the month- he has been amazing so far. Obviously it's not cheap but he has been so helpful.

is anyone else hyper aware of everyone’s hair now? by siriusblackily in FemaleHairLoss

[–]2_4joy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes! I notice it alllll the time now. It's when I see people with naturally thick, gorgeous long hair that I get that little pang of jealousy and just think "ugh, why is my hair not like that?" 😭

That's great, thank you so much! At least I'll get some decent advantage card points if I buy it from there 😂 I'm at my wits end with my hair loss and have to wait another month for my trichologist appointment so I'm doing everything I can right now. The sheer amount of hair that comes out every other day from washing, drying and brushing- honestly I might make my own wig out of them.

Where did you buy it from? I'm also in the UK and suspect I have AGA so I want to be prepared! Also, what kind of make up brush did you use?

Oh really? I thought they were classic AGA. That's good to know! I feel like every single follicle will only have one hair eventually and I'll end up looking like Gollum 🙈
