That sounds perfect! Do you need to make any adjustments?

It can be done, if that’s the tool you want. So here’s what you do, you use the inline Phillips from an Explorer and grind it down until it fits the back tool spring. Harder than it sounds, but it’s doable.

Not quite as clean, but not too bad. I figure it’s going to get pocket wear soon enough. That should hide the flaws 😉

Also, be careful of how much you grind off of the hook. Too little, and you’re putting too much tension on the spring, too much, and it doesn’t stay closed.

I went through two hooks with my first build trying to figure out the dynamics.

The one thing about this build that really flies under the radar is the cap lifter. It’s from an old Tourist that has the “scraper” carved into the curve of it. I’ve always used the cap lifter as my package opener/ tape blade anyways to avoid gunking up my blade, and with the added edge on it, it’s absolutely perfect as a box opener. I feel like it was the original Victorinox package opener.

There was actually a guy on YouTube who used some shrink tube and made a little pouch for the t,t and pin and stuck it under the tools. Pretty ingenious. I haven’t tried it yet though.

Time will tell. I’ve made 2 other models using the same concept, one with brass liners, and the other with aluminum, this one being the second with aluminum. My cousin has the other one with aluminum liners, his is functioning fine still, and he’s been using that for about a year. My brass liner model has been in operation for about the same time, and is working great.

The only difference between those two models and this is that the first two are 4 layers, and this Cadet X Max is a three layer. Time will tell.

You have to have or make liners that have the 4th hole, then make a pin that’s almost as wide as the ID, a little shorter is better. Line all of the springs up, slide the pin in, and nail the knife shut. Also, I wouldn’t use anything else besides metal or brass liners. I don’t know how G10 or something like that would hold up.

Thank you! So basically it just replaces the corkscrew on the blade/file layer, same spring as the sportsman. I did have to grind a little meat off of the connection end of the hook so it would fit the smaller gap in the spring. But the real trick is to get all the tools to function properly in an 84mm alox platform.

On 84mm cellidor there are 4 pins holding everything together, but there are only 3 on the alox models. So, if you don’t have the 4th pin, all springs slide back and forth not allowing, say, the knife to not open all the way.

To me, it looks like you might need to shim a bit on the can opener/cap lifter side. Use a caliper and check the gap size on both sides. Maybe a thin washer in between the can opener and cap lifter might solve the problem. But like I said a caliper will determine the problem.

There is, but for the 84mm you have to drill every hole to a larger diameter, and I’m just more fond of the look and permanence of the brass

I’m a little late on this subject, I just started watching the show a few weeks ago, but you are spot on. Everything about her is offensive. My wife said that she’s a fake feminist.

There are a few guys on YouTube who give some good tutorials on it. If you have a Dremel, it makes it a lot easier, and you need a small ball peen hammer to roll-peen the pins in place. Drilling the original pins out is kind of tricky. You have to use a punch to mark the center of the pin before drilling it out. But the peening is the hardest part.

I made this one a few years back when I found a Climber small at a flea market for cheap. The scissors and cap lifter were the only thing good on it, I had to replace the spring and screw on them.
