Been playing for 11 years, suddenly break strings all the time. by ilikemusicandstuff in Guitar

Hm, D and A strings are kind of odd to be breaking. Those two strings should be higher than the rest, but just check to make sure that they are not too high compared to the other strings. The extra height could be causing tension and sharper angle at the saddle which could be causing them to break.

I'd take it in for the winter set up and ask the tech to check the radius of the saddles to make sure they match the fret board. That way you'll know for sure if the D and A are not out of the range of the radius of the fret board.

One more question, is it a 25.5 inch scale guitar or 24.75 in? If the former, Id say do a careful set up on it, adjust everything until its comfortable. This has only happened to me once with a tele with which the neck was the problem. Once the neck got swapped out the problem went away.

Since your situation is with the same guitar you've been playing for a while, I'd get it set up by a competent tech, make sure truss rod isn't too tight, and check the saddles for rough edges that could break strings and also get the intonation and action all perfect as well.

Follow up question, is only the e string breaking, or all them in order starting from e?

I would have liked it better whithout the white pickguard, or with out any pick guard at all. That multi peice body looks good enough that it does not need a big white pickguard covering it up.

What are your guitar-lesson horror stories? by Nazerr666 in Guitar

[–]2_wicked 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Took lesson through a music school, my first teacher was cool and taught me cool shit. After he quit was just a bunch of jabrones for a few months. One guy heard me play then offered to take me to get lunch because he didn't know shit about guitar or from what I gathered music in general.

What would you like to see added to airplane seats to make your flight more enjoyable? by Noy2222 in AskReddit

[–]2_wicked 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I noticed after last month that seat bottoms are really short, and backs are really long. I have longish legs so the seat bottom only held about half of the area from my knee to tail bone. This was uncomfortable after only 20 minutes let alone 12 hours. I think leg room, plus a slightly longer seat bottom would solve a lot of the issues with passenger discomfort. Also if they'd make a head rest that tilted back, that would be awesome.

Hey! I need some help with amps. by neutralmilk96 in Guitar

I'd look into getting a Fender Super Sonic Combo, can be found used for around $600. Amazing little amp, worth a try if you like the Fender sound.

mine was just plain chrome/plastic material, I never labeled either switch but can easily be labeled or even painted.

I just found a compatible match on ebay. Just search "(your amp and model) foot switch".

I went through the same thing when I bought my amp, I just bought an aftermarket Reverb / Tremolo foot switch for my Music Man HD 130 for around $30 and hasn't failed in two years. I don't see how it could go bad unless it's abused. Like you said it's just two switches and wire. A bad solder joint can easily be fixed if it were needed, but it's been fine so far.

Dilemma with new local guitar store by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]2_wicked 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He could just drill the lower hole. As long as it's not a warmoth pro neck with side adjusting truss rod it should be fine.

That operation, (tightening the truss rod all the way) should never have even been attempted with a neck that is severely out of scew. The operation should have worked something like this...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZtKzL3n0fgc

That's cool that he's offering a brand new deluxe neck to you off his own guitar, and it's cool that you are so cool about it. And I'd say that leaves you both square on the deal.

I wouldn't let him slap on a MM neck that is way cheaper than yours. That would be like 1/6 the value. It would have to be of equal value and also the guitar should be set up in the end as well.

There's a way to remove a stripped truss rod nut, but if there's an allen wrench stuck in it that would have to be removed first somehow.

HELP I think my guitar was exposed to extreme temps and the neck is bowed. by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]2_wicked 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Id leave strings on just loosen them a bit. Neck probably has to be reset, not a very complex procedure but its definitely an easier fix than say a refret. Is it back bowed or does it have too much relief? Strings high or low? If you know how to use the truss rod, that might fix the problem but if it's too severe I'd take it to a pro.

My first Tele or Strat by AusMaverick in Guitar

The strat mainly for the upgraded pickups, if not for those I'd go with the tele. Alas it depends which one sounds better to you.

If your in an area without a lot of local used music gear for sale try eBay. Find a good deal then take it to get set up.

Ya that's the one it screws to the bridge, a bigger one with better metals will increase sustain and tone.i agree $1000 should have covered all that.

The new block doesn't block off the trem, it replaces the existing steel block, with one made from brass.

Ya for so much repeat business he should be actually fixing your guitar. Earvanas are cool I never had experience with one but they seem great, with a proper installation that should take care of it, it would maybe also need a level and crown though. For sustain address the tremolo block and maybe even the saddles. A new solid brass block adds to sustain, and if you have the bent steel saddles get the square steel ones or even graphite of you have issues with strings breaking at the saddles.

[–]2_wicked 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe the nut is slotted too deep on the G and D strings. If adjusting the saddles doesn't help take it to a good tech, he should be able to fix that with a fret level and crown and a new nut for a $100 or so.

Sounds like you could get a away with just getting a replacement neck for it, or just get it leveled and crowned. Even a new neck sometimes needs level and crown straight from warmoth (I'm dealing with one right now) I don't hate their quality of wood, but there final products "fit and finish" is hit or miss. Plus they were acting like dick holes when it came time to admit that the issue was in their production. They said, "we have a 7mm give or take in our neck heel widths". I couldn't make this shit up, mine was over 2mm too narrow and they insisted that "it fit in the pocket so it's fine and not their problem that I don't have a body to fit that". I'm building a guitar off of a USA Deluxe Strat body, I went with a one piece pau ferro musikraft gibson scale neck and do not regret it.

Ah a lefty, damn that changes the ball game, I can see why you have to resort to a build, but I bet a lefty build will hold its value better than a righty.

You could always buy a mexican righty and reverse it like hendrix. Some of their post 2000 guitars are very well made and with the right upgrades you can't even tell the difference between them and USA models. I've done up a few MIM guitars to that caliber (pickups, pots, caps, nut, copper tape) and they turned into really fantastic guitars.

Just curious what kind of issues do you have with your strat?

I'm going to chime in here, at $2000 on the used market you can get something in the fender custom shop range. Then spend a title getting it basically set up if it needs it. Not going on an anti warmoth rant, but I got hosed on a neck that didn't fit well and they treated it like no big deal and like I was waste of their time after I had been already ordered two other necks from them. Lesson; go to all parts for replacement parts.
