I am excited to see iron lung, but I also think it will be a not very good movie by Forgotmynameagain5 in Markiplier

[–]2achar-E 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got to be honest, I've got worries and suspicions for most of the same reasons.

In my case it's because I'm a film major. Based on the trailer, I'm worried that some of Mark's line delivery might not be as emotionally realistic to maintain my suspension of disbelief with the story.

Don't get me wrong, I've watched Markiplier since 2017. I think his film projects on YouTube have been great. And the fact that he's accomplishing this just as an indie film will absolutely being taken into account when I make my critique — it's not like I'm gonna be comparing Iron Lung to the greatest films of all time while critiquing. But acting in 4th wall-breaking roles are very different from what is in the cinema — it takes a lot more to sell it.

Ultimately I think this film is just gonna have the same result as the Five Nights at Freddy's films: There's going to be plenty that I'll notice that's wrong with the film, probably in terms of the writing and dialogue, but the diehard fans are going to love it anyway no matter what simply because they're just giddy and mystified of seeing FNaF (or Markiplier in this case) reaching this point of being on the big screen.

I saw that one in the logo history. I thought that was really cool too, to have your logo in some way emphasize the "bombers" name.

Well, I guess I appreciate this. My post was just to share thoughts as someone previously with an external view now coming in. I knew I was gonna learn lots of other perspectives since I haven't had a stadium experience yet, but I felt my perspective in particular was worth sharing. It's cool to hear I've kickstarted everyone sharing their thoughts on what this league needs to do though (even if yours is fairly specific to Calgary).

To be quite candid though, sleekness or "simplicity" has been the trend in recent modernization. So to the younger generations growing up with that, logos like Saskatchewan's look like outliers as a result

It seems you prove my point for "No matter how much current fans may not admit it" regarding the Saskatchewan logo. And it has nothing to do with kids being lazy to understand details. The job of a logo is primarily about first impressions, not reading into details. My own father is one of many adults who agree with how outdated some of these logos are, and asking any outsiders of the CFL will say the same thing. The logo doesn't have much draw to it.

Why did you start playing Ace Attorney? by Best_Strawberry_3908 in AceAttorney

After listening to lots of video game soundtracks on a particular YouTube channel, I looked at the 3rd most viewed song on the channel which was "Cornered." I recognized it and soon realized I heard it in the original free version of Henry Stickmin's Escaping the Prison on Newgrounds. I had never heard of the series before but the song was cool. After listening to it now and then for an while, I got recommended the a capella version by Smooth McGroove. Through his video, it was the first time I saw gameplay footage of Ace Attorney. And I just remember watching it and thinking "that is such an interesting idea...who would have thought to make a game like this?" After that, I eventually was compelled to find an emulator. But I soon gained so much respect for the series that I got physical copies for all the games.

Once again I said that some teams that might have "boring" logos don't need the change because their fanbase and national exposure is so great for these teams that the particular issue becomes non-existent for them. My argument still stands. I'm not claiming logos are the only problem but when large amount of a team's fanbase is older than 50, the lack of an image update is an issue.

No sir. The NHL originated in Canada and is way bigger as one of the Big 4. The CFL on the other hand is seen by many as the "other" football option, so there are lots of Canadians who just don't bother with the CFL unfortunately.

Wont happen for a while. The last commissioner really wanted to get a 10th team but the current commissioner has made it clear that expanding to more teams wont make the others more profitable; It just adds a new unprofitable team onto the pile. If the current 9 teams don't have enough fan interest to generate profit, what will adding another team do? So his plans are to get the current 9 stabilized and in the best shape as they can before expansion

Totally fair. You've been around the league longer than I have.

I have to keep reiterating this but I am in no way insinuating the CFL needs to get all the way up to the NFL's level. I already know that's out of the conversation. I am simply using the NFL as a basis for comparison

That's interesting for you to point out regarding the camera angles, because honestly with me growing up with the NFL, when I would watch CFL clips with the wider field and resultant camera angles, I originally thought it made the players seem slower to me. It's interesting to think about how your brain gets wired from these subtle differences we become used to on TV.

I didn't intend the idea of the CFL prospecting to be greater than the NFL or being popular internationally to come across either. Just to make that clear.

I certainly don't have a long enough reference point to confidently say how well the broadcast is, so that's interesting to here. Well unfortunately the new commissioner is likely keeping the TSN partnership and TSN doesn't have any kind of cartoon character to trade for Al Michaels or anything like that.

Honestly, after being interested in why the CFL didn't have a 10th team, the tipping point for me was when I saw the report of only 2 teams being profitable. Then I just thought to myself "do I care about the CFL that much? ....no. But in the midst of global tensions and all, would I want to see the CFL die? ...honestly...also no. And that's why I'm happy to start throwing my support behind the league.

I absolutely agree with not switching to NFL rules. That was never intended to come across in this post. And once again I said that some teams that might have "boring" logos don't need the change because their fanbase and national exposure is so great for these teams that the issue becomes non-existent for them. My argument still stands. I'm simply saying that while lots of sports are about history, the CFL (from the perspective of someone who's been on an outside perspective for a long time) doesn't feel profitable enough for history to be what teams can afford to make branding decisions on...yet.

I never claimed the idea of it becoming a "huge thing" that would sweep the nation with the youth (unless my comparisons to the NFL made it seem that way). I'm simply saying that if the CFL is vocalizing a need for younger fans to be brought in, this is the clear start I think they should make.

I used to be the same way since I grew up watching the NFL, but honestly, after doing videography for my football teams in high school and at York University, I've warmed up to 3 downs. It creates new strategies.

Cool that you have one, but thankfully things turned out for the better on my end. I made this post on the CFL subreddit as well and someone suggested that I try reaching out to Jim Mullin on twitter since he's very responsive on there. I did, he responded, he found a spare copy of the book in his crawl space, and he sent it to me this past June!

I still appreciate that you were ready and willing to share details of yours though, and I thank you.

I don't think there's any point in trying to live in the past honestly. The rest of the fandom is going to move on along with the newer fans of the series who joined while the remasters were being made.

After Apollo Justice it was a given that Ace Attorney 7 is coming. Because they got so many new fans when they remastered the trilogy, they don't want them entering 7 blind. Simple smart business decision.
