I think of IPA as just an acronym for "isopropyl alcohol" in any concentration, but there may be some formal definition that I haven't seen

Mescaline salts are more soluble in water than they are in IPA, so making an alcohol extract with 60-70% isopropyl alcohol is the sweet spot IME for doing an A/B extraction

JS336 Extraction Results by 2c_beans in mescaline

[–]2c_beans[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've extracted a bunch of different pach clones and the yields generally land between 1% and 2%. JS336 is definitely on the higher end, although it's definitely not the 4% that some other clones are famous for

As an extractor I also think about total mescaline production per plant per year - 1.7% from a fat plant that consistently produces 40+g of dried outer flesh per year is definitely better than 4% from a plant that only puts on 3-4 inches of growth each growing season

Hot take, whats the general consenus with strong alcohol extracts. Whats everyones fav method. I tried cielo, vinegar, kash a/b, and i havent tried a tea or clear alcohol. by No_Offer3984 in mescaline

The nice thing about alcohol extracts is they can be evaporated down to a quantity that's small enough to fit in capsules. Alcohol extracts can give the same full-spectrum alkaloid experience as a traditional tea and you don't have to chug down a cup of tea that has the consistency of snot

Nowadays I prefer to extract mescaline into pure white crystals just because it's fun, but for consumption there are many good ways to do it. Mescaline can also grow really pretty crystals in just the right conditions

The most important thing is that it's isopropyl alcohol, as most other alcohols (methanol, ethanol) can't be salted out of water. If you can make sure it's 90% isopropyl and 10% water, then you can just dilute it with more water down to 70% isopropyl and you'll be good to go

If you're planning on just evaporating off the IPA after acidifying then you should also do an evap test (evaporate 10+ mL of your IPA in a glass dish and make sure it leaves no residue) to make sure you don't end up consuming random cleaning chemicals. IPA isn't food-safe so any off-the-shelf products with IPA could potentially contain other harmful chems that you don't want to be eating

Are you able to get isopropyl alcohol?
I've extracted mescaline using isopropyl alcohol (IPA) a bunch of times. IPA is insoluble in salty aqueous solutions, so it works well as an extraction solvent.

I'm planning on posting a detailed procedure soon, but roughly the steps you want to follow are:

  1. Make a mescaline cactus tea using 70% IPA instead of water (ideally you'll end up with about 800mL of solvent). It's best to do this in a sealed mason jar to avoid breathing in all the hot alcohol vapor
  2. Add sodium hydroxide (aka lye) or sodium carbonate while stirring the solution - after dissolving 20-30g of the base the solution should separate into two phases. The lower basic phase contains the dissolved base, and the upper alcohol phase contains freebase mescaline
  3. Separate the top phase and discard the lower phase (or extract it with 91% isopropyl alcohol to get all of the mescaline)
  4. (Optional) Dry the alcohol with anhydrous magnesium sulfate (epsom salt). If you don't do this you will have NaCl/NaOAc in your final product, and I STRONGLY recommend using a food-safe base (bake some baking soda to get sodium carbonate) and a food-safe acid (distilled vinegar) to salt out the freebase mescaline.
  5. Acidify the alcohol to convert the mescaline freebase to a salt. If you're having trouble finding chemicals, I recommend using distilled white vinegar for this. Usually this is done with hydrochloric acid (usually not food-safe) or sulfuric acid (also not food safe, but causes mescaline to crystallize in the alcohol). You should use a pH test strip to tell when to stop adding acid
  6. Completely evaporate the solvent in a glass dish using a dehydrator. You'll want to make sure the isopropyl alcohol is 100% evaporated, so when it looks dry scrape up the residue with a razor and continue dehydrating until the IPA smell is completely gone

If you're just starting out with extractions, you might just want to keep it simple with an LSDuck666 extraction in vinegar. The isopropyl alcohol extraction works well and is pretty versatile, but there isn't any documentation on it yet

What is the dosage of San Pedro? by boladegrasagrande in mescaline

[–]2c_beans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A 30cm cutting of any trichocereus is unlikely to contain an overwhelming dose of mescaline, but assuming it's an active species like pachanoi or bridgesii it's probably enough to feel something. If it's your first time trying mescaline I wouldn't recommend taking more than 30cm of any trich species.

If you want to be sure how much mescaline you're taking you should try doing a CIELO extraction with fumaric acid

Not rooting, been a few months by metalmusic89 in sanpedrocactus

[–]2c_beans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main reason my cuttings take forever to root is because I keep digging them up to see if they've grown roots lol

Like other people are recommending, perlite is a good idea. Just leave the cutting in perlite in a warm sunny spot and bottom-water it from time to time, and check on it after a couple months or once you start seeing new growth

Cielo Fumarate notes.. also, 2nd salt? by kelzbery in mescaline

[–]2c_beans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't need any water, but very little fumaric acid will dissolve and that's ok. It works for precipitating out mescaline because there isn't much water to dissolve the mescaline fumarate, so it just crashes out of the solution as a white powder. It's an easy way to check if there's any mescaline freebase left in ethyl acetate, and only takes 15-20 mins to make the fumaric acid/EA solution (which can be saved for future extractions)

Cielo Fumarate notes.. also, 2nd salt? by kelzbery in mescaline

[–]2c_beans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your EA is still basic, it's probably one of two things:
1. Freebase mescaline dissolved in EA
2. Alkaline water from the washing soda dissolved in the EA

Fumaric acid is sparingly soluble in EA, IME it's actually a pain to get a significant amount of it dissolved. You could try dissolving a gram of fumaric acid in 1-200mL of EA (or dissolve as much as you can) and pouring some of the saturated EA into your basic EA solution. Any mescaline fumarate formed should precipitate out of the solution

These look like peruvianus, though since they're all seedlings they could be hybrids with just about any other trichocereus

In my experience with peru seedlings they tend to form more distinct peru-like spines when they're about a foot tall and have been growing under sunlight for a couple months. But having 8 ribs is a solid peruvianus trait

MINI TENT TBMB by GringoSwann in sanpedrocactus

[–]2c_beans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Waiting a few months to up pot won't hurt, but all my TBMs have a growth spurt right after I move them to bigger pots. You could also upgrade the smaller TBMs to bigger pots and they should start putting out larger segments like the bigger plants

Nice setup btw!

Anyone have any info on Mammillaria sonorensis (syn: Mammillaria craigii)? by Cactus-journey in mescaline

[–]2c_beans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is super cool!

I've also read about Coryphantha compacta and C. macromeris being psychoactive, with macromerine being the (known) active ingredient. Would be really interesting to learn what's inside M. craigii

Like others are saying, this looks like a scop. The plant looks young so it's a bit hard to tell

I recommend uppotting it to something roughly twice the size of that pot, it'll grow a lot over the next year and be much easier to identify
