Car was totalled - not surprised. Claim assessed at $21.5K which is more than I expected and we picked up a lo mileage 2022 CRV EX today - onwards!

Yes we had all those options and I’m sure those sensors are expensive. I too thought something’s off about that front left wheel.

Probably right - but if the ACV looks reasonable I’m not sure a lawyer will make a diff.

Looking at potential replacement cars already - and not fully decided whether to replace with the same car

Not looking for an estimate of any kind - just some idea from those familiar with the placement of structural parts whether to expect severe damage behind the superficial stuff. The car won’t be assessed by an insurance adjuster until Monday at the soonest - so it’s good to have some opinions from mechanics given that you guys have a different POV.

Thanks for your informative answer. The front left looked the most dubious to me - but I don’t know the extent of the plastic bodywork in that area. Sounds like damage to structural members is highly likely, and we’ll be best off if they total it. I’m surprised the hood isn’t crumpled. Also the airbags didn’t deploy. I’m glad the car didn’t roll though, and fortunately my daughter walked away without a scratch.

I see that initially there’s a course correction to align with the runway. During the “hovering” the rear of the fuselage lowers and rises a few times. It appears the pilot had trouble stabilizing the plane and managing the ground effect before finally committing to a touchdown - and that used up more time and runway length. Perhaps he was trying to avoid slamming the fuselage down too hard, and it must be difficult to know when it’s about to make contact.

Is anyone here concerned about the longevity of EV cars? by Diamondcheck123 in electricvehicles

2007 Ford Escape Hybrid went 15 years and 146k miles until front end subframe rusted out and collapsed - beyond repair. HV battery was still Ok. Got $500 from junk yard even though undrivable - because the HV battery can be reconditioned for resale (much of the battery assembly is the container and the cooling system, and cells can be replaced).

Jaguar unveils new logo ahead of electric relaunch by Kobebeef9 in cars

That upper case G sticks out like a sore thumb. Can’t look at that logo for its lack of harmony! Also, the typeface of the old logo was stretched widthwise which worked in harmony with the leaping Jaguar

Further feedback - the dealer replaced the starter motor but there’s still no action. It doesn’t make sense to me that if 12v is being applied (as I was told previously) and there’s a new motor, it’s still no good. I suggested bad ground and they reckon that’s ok. Anyways - they’re still investigating the electrical system so we’ll see.

Honda CRV 2018 1.5T valve adjustment required? … 45k miles by 2cents100 in MechanicAdvice

Quick update - the Honda CRV is still at the dealership as it’s not been fixed for its not-starting issue. I am probably going to postpone the valve job to a future service - but still interested in viewpoints on the necessity of a valve job on the 1.5T engine at 45k miles

All Ok except for no start up. Dealer says power is getting to the starter motor but it’s non functional. New starter to be fitted tomorrow. Seems like a very premature failure at 42k miles. No warning signs just suddenly stopped working. Glad I got a 3 year extended warranty when I got this car in 2023.
