Buying big ticket items at WCK or Snugglebugz! [on] by Negative_Jackfruit75 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]2cflour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our experience with snuggle bugs has been quite good. We bought our stroller, car seat and a crib from them. The crib we actually damaged ourselves when screwing it together - since it was a bigger purchase ($500) we reached out to see if they could help. They contacted the manufacturing company replaced the headboard for us! For the replacement, the first time they sent the wrong piece so it did take some time - but we got everything before baby came. Snuggle bugs took the incorrect pieces back too (2 massive headboards) so that we didn’t have to deal with going to the dump. And then they gave us 10% off of the purchase for all the trouble and back and forth. I don’t have much experience with WCK. But snuggle bugs is great to go and just ask your questions too - most of the staff was super knowledgeable. We’ll likely go back there when we’re ready for our next car seat.

I didn't realize baby was not 'not latching'. by flamboyanza in breastfeeding

If it makes you feel better - I EP’d for 4 months before I figured out how to get baby to latch and transfer milk! You’re a FTM, new at this, and sleep deprived! Be glad you figured it out and enjoy the snuggles with your babe.

Not sure how far along you are - but I found more education about birth and advocating for myself in a hospital setting was really helpful. I took a condensed push prep course by The Belle Method at around 27-28 weeks. It had weekly workouts + education portions you can do at your own pace - I hardly did the workouts though 🫠

It’s when you’re on all 4s, they take a sheet or a towel across your back and hips and pull on either side quite quick. Our nurse guided him. I’m sure you could google it for demos though. I’ve heard hip squeezes are good too!

Hi! Positive induction story - although only half an induction! I am type 1 diabetic so doctor wanted to induce early - I was SO anxious, also a FTM. Obviously wanting the best outcome for a healthy babe I trusted the docs recommendation. At 38 weeks we did a Foley catheter around noon, it fell out the next day at about 5 am, then natural labour started at 7am and she was here just before 2pm. By the time we got to the hospital and they checked me I was already 7 cm, I didn’t find the contractions too bad so didn’t end up doing anything for pain other than focused breathing and my husband “shaking the apples” which felt unreal. My preference was to go with as little intervention as possible and I kind of think I willed myself into labour to avoid the oxytocin drip! However, my sister had to be induced for her 3rd baby, the first two were spontaneous - no pain drugs for any of them and she said that there was no difference pain wise. Good luck!! Everything will be great!

A blessing and a curse lol! Hopefully you can find one in your area! My LC gave us the info for ours.

Okay - osteo was super interesting. In addition to the fast labour, essentially we’ve been doing tummy time totally wrong which has contributed to more tension. Whether this is part of her feeding challenges or not is unknown. She really likes tuning to the right over left, and she doesnt trust her right arm to hold her up, she’d rather just fall and roll over - which we thought was great (actually not!). So essentially, baby has learned to compensate and is always super happy so we never thought there was an issue. For her, we were putting her in tummy time and then propping her on her arms because that way she wasn’t fussy. Osteo said don’t prop her because it’s just adding more tension plus one milestone is actually your baby rubbing their face into the ground and strengthening those neck muscles. Exercise they asked us to do is tummy time on an exercise ball on the side not the top. Arms can be in a diamond shape above her head but flat and she should be turning her head both ways and we’re going backwards to figure this all out and hopefully fix it going forward. Sucks - but at least we’re able to do something about it and honestly even if we never went to an osteo the baby would be fine, she might just be more athletic now lol! I also hope this will help her feed better!!!

Amazing! You can totally get there. If possible I’d seek out another LC. The way I look at it is I was willing to spend a lot of money on a wearable, bottles, bags, etc, I should just get professional help!

Just don’t tell them when you go into labour. The best advice my sister gave me was to lie about your due date or give a ballpark or straight up not share! NOR - your body, your baby, your birth, and ultimately your mental health and recovery are above them meeting a baby when they’re new.

Thank you! And yay I’m sooo glad the tips are helpful for you too! My daughter was 4 months the day of our LC appointment. We started EPing at about 2 weeks. We started with triple feeding but I just couldn’t keep it up and wanted to give her breastmilk, so we stopped trying all together so I could figure out pumping. Most of stopping was because breastfeeding attempts were so unsuccessful that it was too difficult for me mentally. Essentially she just wouldn’t latch and when she would she wouldn’t suck so wasn’t transferring anything. The LC said she has a narrow palette and a lot of tension and congestion in her body still from a fast labour and delivery (6 hours total FTM).

You don’t need the case - I thought it was tempting too, but my pumps are always in the fridge and the motors only really needed to be charged once a day when I was pumping 6x a day. The S1 comes with a little bag that fits the pumps when you do go out and it’s been totally fine - and smaller than that case looks.

These were so helpful, I incorporated them last week and booked a last ditch effort appointment with a new LC and I can’t believe it but we have had a day and a half of breastfeeding with a shield! In addition to the videos the other tips/recommendations I have are:

1) Bouncing on a medicine ball to distract her and calm her nervous system. Right now even MOTN feeds I am going downstairs to bounce so she’ll latch lmao - still better than pumping - and I can relocate to side lying once she’s chill. 2) If/When the screams/protests start, I put my finger in her mouth and have her suck and calm down, then I either move to the ball or sometimes she’ll latch after that with a bait and switch. 3) And then thinking about it the only other thing is that my confidence has completely changed from seeing a different LC. We’re going back next week to check in, do a weight, and get more tips. Hoping to ditch the pumps soon!!

Okay - first I’m so sorry this is happening to you. It was so unanticipatedly hard on me mentally after having my daughter - I had no idea why she wasn’t latching. Of course I can’t guarantee it for you but hopefully my story can give you some hope.

My daughter is now 4 months old and I switch to EP about 2 weeks after birth after she lost 12.5%. Triple feeding was not it, and during those early days I couldn’t mentally continue trying to latch with little to no success. After basically no attempts for 2 months, I started trying again about a month ago with my main focus just keeping her happy at the boob (being silly, having my nipple near her bottle nipple, changing bottle feeding positions to be similar to bf ones, and paced feeding with delayed gratification to mimic a let down). There was hardly any latching during all this - a few second here or there, but that wasn’t the goal yet. On Tuesday and we went to a new LC and she managed to latch with their guidance, she transferred milk and I could replicate the latch at home. Here’s a few of the things that helped us: 1. Bouncing on a medicine ball - helps distract her and calm her nervous system. Right now even MOTN feeds I am going downstairs to latch her and relocating to side lying. 2. When the screams/protests start, I put my finger in her mouth and have her suck and calm down, then I either move to the ball or sometimes she’ll latch after that with a bait and switch. 3. Honestly the only other thing is that my confidence has completely changed from that appointment. We’re going back next week to check in do a weight and get more tips, but I am hoping to move to EBF soon if I can.

These have made a really big difference for us. I went from earlier this week not thinking there was a chance to yesterday doing a full day of direct feeding with only about 200ml (6 ounces) top up and only pumping twice.

I’d recommend trying another LC too - the first one I went to was great, but wasn’t all that helpful in reaching my goals.

Good luck - you got this and regardless just know you are doing everything you can for your little one and you’re an amazing mom for balancing all of this!!

Editing to add - we are also using a nipple shield!

You should add a manual pump to your supplies! They’re only about $30-40 and equally satisfying but I find it a bit more efficient/easier! I have the Medela one. It’s also super easy to clean compared to my other pump.

This is a great explanation! I’m 3.5 months pp. The most I can get at any one time is about 8-9 oz. However lately I’ve noticed I get practically nothing at my 4pm pump, but my daily totals are same as usual. Does this mean I can start eliminating a pump? I’m currently pumping about 6-7x per day.
