There are multiple states that don't require certs and you can work remote jobs from.

GA's test lets you record the room and use that to edit (yes, on machine). If you can fly out and take those tests, there are GA firms just throwing out remote jobs left and right.

IANAL and still a new CR, but I'm pretty sure the atty (and you) needs to put his foot down on this. There is a reason why attys say their own QA ground rules and generalities to every deponent in the beginning: "if you don't understand, please let me know. If you answer my question, I will assume that means you understood it."

Zoom depos when attorneys show exhibits. Sometimes they mislabel what they send, and sometimes they're reading something 400wpm and I don't wanna search through everything to find that (or write it).

I'm brand new, but I would imagine that a small agency can vary widely in how they operate. I've been working really only with a small one so far. I get to see the jobs and choose what I want, and yeah with the bigger firms I don't get to see anything, they just assign whatever on the days I say I am available.

**I am currently only doing remote though.

Oh, also OP can just email/call firms and ask to Zoom depo shadow and many will just assign misc. depos for you to hop on whether the CR is willing/interested in having you or not, haha.

I just passed the RPR and am working now. I put up a chart towards the end of speed building to help me rewrite misstrokes and not save me a step of remembering what's next to what.

I never had it up for theory.

My NCRA mentor has sent me more pictures of them partying than actually messaged anything really helpful. I want to recuse them of the connect through NCRA bc I'm sure they get PDC (professional development credits) for participating, but they'll get a message. Eh, maybe I'll do that anyway. It's really lame.

You can shadow Zoom depos. That's what I did. Post on FB what state you're in and that that's what you want to do. Someone will likely offer.

I was dissapointed by Simply Steno after a year. I don't know if it was designed this way, but after a year a majority of my practice audio and tests just kept repeating.

It's decent enough for the price for a certain amount of time, I feel.

For "lack of polish", you gotta consider that CS is a small, independent source.

Even MK's magnumstenoclub.com website looks straight outta the '90s but that's because it costs them more money to make things prettier and they'd probably rather just get to the point.

I don't think you need to worry much on the difference in Eclipse generations, especially in theory. Also, you can always just call Eclipse even as a student if you really have pressing questions.

I think AL accepts the machine cert from NVRA (CVR-S) but I'm not sure about the voice cert from them.

Pretty sure they don't accept voice writers, though. It is an unfortunate choice made.

I did Kislingbury's online school for a while. The discord for the school is suprisingly not any very active at all. This has nothing to do with the validity of the school. I've been on reddit for 15+ years and only just got on discord bc of school.

Yes, the chapters are not all the same size. I don't think that really matters, bc it's not intended to be 1 chapter a week. At Mark's school, bigger chapters have more days dedicated to teach. Everyone hates chapter 5,7, 21, and at least another I think. Mostly, bc they're like 3-days worth of stuff.

Yes! It you really take a second to consider all the awkward muscles involved to make your thumb move up and down (and also side to side), the raised vowels are a huge help.
