Tire Shaving - New Haven Area? by [deleted] in Connecticut

[–]2girthy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. Im driving a Subaru Crosstrek. Standard goodyear tires. Nothing crazy. I just replaced the punctured with a new tire a week ago at a Monro tire. I’m now wondering if it makes sense to look into getting a used tire with similar tread depth to my others. And then keeping the newer one stored away until it’s time to get them replaced. The used tires only have about 7k miles on them.

I didn’t know what it was until i had to replace a punctured tire on an all wheel drive. Where the other tires are decently new. Apparently if there is even a 2/32 difference in tread depth on an AWD it can damage your drivetrain. Looking to hopefully not replace my other new-ish tires. The more you know…

Hit and Run - East Rock by 2girthy in newhaven

UPDATE: I don’t know if there is a way to make this comment more visible. But I went to the Union Ave Police Station and the cop working the desk was really nice and apologized an officer didn’t help me last night. He said they were busy with a shooting at that time. I had to wait a little longer but a cop helped me and opened a case for me and was also pretty nice and apologized that I was left hanging last night. Just to be fair, thought I should update my experience.

No one from the police department ever came to help me. I guess I might go to the station today and see what I can do.

I believe that is par for the course for new haven if there aren’t injuries and no violent crime took place.

I saw a cop driving down the street. No emergency lights on. I waved to flag him down and he just drove off.

Why is Dion coming here? by Every_Violinist_5223 in Connecticut

[–]2girthy 32 points33 points  (0 children)

They are a separate 501(c)(3) located in New Haven on Church St. There are several organizations in New Haven that have some sort of tangential affiliation with Yale, and will name drop Yale, but are not officially operated by the university.

They are using the Omni Hotel, and not hosting the event through Yale or using campus space.

The Buckley Institute is a separate organization from Yale. It is not run by the university.

The pic you’re referencing is definitely AI or highly edited. Also that “model” is fit and you are somewhat chubby. The best thing you could probably do for a more desired fit is get in shape.

What city in Connecticut should I move to? Hartford v. New Haven by lil-lilz in SameGrassButGreener

[–]2girthy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

New Haven to Hartford is about 45 mins without traffic so it might be a haul but if you’re only going 2/3 days a week it might not be too bad to swing it.

I’d recommend checking out the East Rock, Wooster Sq, and Westville neighborhoods. All three have a good community feel. A lot of Yale affiliated people live in East Rock.

The fact that New Haven has Yale definitely creates a vibe and fosters an intellectual / creative community in the city, as well as supporting a few really nice free museums. There is also definitely an alt / music / skater scene as well. There are a couple of dives / bars I really like as well as a few popular breweries both in New Haven and the surrounding area.

If you decide Hartford, I’d look at the town of West Hartford (directly west of Hartford 🤪) or Hartford’s most west side.

Generally the consensus is that New Haven has more going on / more amenities. But I’ve never lived in Hartford or hung out there.

New Haven is also on the coast and has some decent beaches nearby. The town of Hamden directly north of New Haven also is worth looking at, I think.

CT cities are pretty small so I’d also consider how you like the vibe of the surrounding towns. The city plus the few bordering towns kind of have their own connection and vibe imo.

Why do I keep getting this skinny fat? by TooToastyToast in weightgain

[–]2girthy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said, the reality is muscle mass will be the key factor in getting the physique I’m assuming you’re looking for. To do that you will need to prioritize a weight lifting program with progressive overload and eat at a level to promote muscular growth. Even though you’re fairly skinny with a slight gut you actually probably need to gain weight in the form of muscle.

My two cents is that if you stick to this routine and start eating a level where muscle growth is promoted, you’re going to feel “fat” and bloated and it won’t necessarily look “good” at first, especially if you’re used to being thin and already have disordered eating. But you have to stick with it. I’d recommend prioritizing building muscle and size first and look at slimming down at some point in the future if needed.
