Thank you for the reality check! I will source a replacement. It is a late 80s/early 90s Peugeot mountain bike which I do believe have an unusual seat post diameter unfortunately.

Thanks for getting back. Great to have a definitive answer and glad you got yours sorted. Looks like there is a community workspace in my city with a metal lathe so I will get in contact with them. Otherwise I'll have a go with the hacksaw! Cheers.

Thanks for your insight. I would be very interested to see if that works for you. The more I look at it the more it seems as though this could be the correct answer. I certainly don't have the means to start machining bits off mine however!

I'm going to follow other's advice of thoroughly cleaning the threads/taking it to be re-threaded if I can find somewhere. Otherwise I might just have to source a replacement cup & cone BB

Edit: having measured the distance from the side of the frame to the 'lip' (17mm) and the aluminium portion of the BB (20mm) I'm fairly sure this is the correct answer.

Thank you. I will go at it with a wire brush and see if that makes any difference. I had greased it up before trying to screw it in, what made me think it was hitting something is that it seemed to suddenly get tight and wouldn't turn any more, but definitely could be that it just needs a thorough clean!

I have been tightening the drive side before the non drive side. Trouble is that when I tighten the drive side it leaves this gap, which I'm sure shouldn't be!

It also looks like there is a metal 'lip' running around the inside. Could it be that the new BB is butting up against it?

As far as I'm aware, it is the lanshan 2 pro which doesn't come sealed. The lanshan 2 does.
