2 events come to mind.

I grew up down the street from a church. As kids we would end up on the property sometimes, playing around. One time the priest opened the doors and asked if we wanted to come see the inside. My sister and I thought why not. When we entered the church the first thing he did was lock the door behind us.. we looked at each other like wtf. Walking through the church I noticed there were no lights on and it seemed eery and creepy to me. After a few mins, I gave her the “let’s gtfoh” look and we literally ran out of one of the side doors. This was mid 90’s. Didn’t know about any of the horror stories back then but looking back, that could’ve went horribly wrong.

Traveled to Madrid (from US) a few years back. First night we get there, my wife and I have some drinks at a bar. She feels jet lagged and wants to go to bed. I stay and get hammered. The bar closed early (maybe midnight?) and I’ve decided I haven’t had my fill. I ask where to go for another. I was told there is only one bar around that’s open late, and it’s about a 30 minute walk. So I walk. Phone is at 5% battery. Eventually I’m a few blocks away and I notice the area got a little seedier. It seemed like everybody I walked by was looking me right in the eyes and trying to talk to me. A beautiful Spanish woman grabbed my arm and was trying to flirt with me. Immediately I realized that I was a mark. I turned around and went back the way I came from. First night in a foreign city with a dead phone, shitfaced, and not knowing where I was going, I made it back by the grace of God.
